Just wanted to throw this out there. My school is hosting a Drag Race day (Cars and Bikes) out at Byron Dragway in Ill. The date is Sat. Sept. 27th starting at 9am. The cost is 20 bucks for as many runs as you want. I will be running my '98 again along with some friends bikes. Hope to see some other 'birds out there. Cheers.

Is it a full reserved event? I see nothing on Byron's calendar, so it looks like it is blocked out..
Also, do you know if they intend on doing a full track prep? Usually in a reserved event you have to pony up a few $$ to have a full prep over a basic prep.
Either way, I'm 80% certain I could make it, where do I sign up?

I know that when I ran my bike last fall, they let everybody run their bike with just jeans, leather jacket, helmet of course, shoes that cover the ankles and gloves. My observation has concluded that Byron is a little more lax on rules for equipment. Most of the bikes were stock, there were a few lowered and stretched bikes that were running 9's and 10's, they ran the same as we did with just jeans. Kent Stotz was out there with his 'bird and wearing full leathers. I guess it's up to you what you want to wear with how fast you are running. As far as track prep, one of my fellow instructors has a 6 second pro mod '57 chevy that they usually prep the track for him anyway because he runs with the Chicago Wise Guys. Last fall, I noticed that when I was staging my bike, I had to PUSH my bike a little into the lights because it was pretty sticky. Thought I was gonna leave my shoes on the line when I launched. The track is open to everybody on that day. UTI has two races a year out there and get at least two lanes to run out of. It's mainly for the students to come out and have some fun but everybody is welcome to come out and run. I will be bringing some friends to run like I did last year. Bikes and cars. Come on out and have some fun, I'd like to meet some fellow 'bird pilots. Cheers.

That's awesome! Is there any sign up or something we have to tell the gate when we get there? I don't want to load everything up and make the trip only to be turned away, ya know?

To elixxir, just show up, it's open to everybody, they usually run the bikes out of one lane. To xx2wheelin, I work with Mario Orsini, red '57, blown alcohol. Cheers.

Just wondering who in Chicagoland might go out to Byron this Saturday with their 'Bird?? As long as it doesn't rain I'll be there. Cheers.
