I was taking a ride around Lake Travis, TX (near Austin) with my 11-year old son. I don't know how long he was behind me trying to keep up but a guy on a REALLY nice looking BMW K-1200 (I think) actually pulled over into the gravel to check out the bird.

I only noticed him because I was slowing down to turn into a restaurant, but as I slowed down I checked my mirror (hadn't done so in a while... I was a little busy) I saw a siver bike. I didn't think anything of it except that I was going to have to slow down and make a U-turn in what's already a narrow twisty road. I pulled to the farthest right I could figuring he's go around me on the left.

He pulls up to the right of me in the soft gravel (and about a 6 inch drop into the shoulder) and said he just wanted to see what I was riding. I got the feeling that my son and I (350 lbs between us) gave him a run for his money on the preceding mile. I though his was going to fall over when I told him it was a 1997.

I occasionally get mistaken for a beemer or ST-1300 because I have the big Givi bags (all 3) on the back. But I also have Erion Racing 4:2's tucked underneath the bags (they just sing on my carburated engine), so they generally find out different pretty quickly.

The old bird's still got it.

Cool. Not sure that I ever needed to see someone elses bike bad enough to drop into gravel like the dude on the BMW. You must have made an impression.

That's exactly what I was thinking, it'll be a cold day in hell that I pull into some gravel intentionally.
