Working for a facilities management company brought me to Mission Hills CA a week ago. Interesting situation, as we bust our guts for a few days and then wait for the potentates to figure out what to do next, since they apparently didn't plan on having any problems with fitments.

Anyway, during the down time (and taking my boss to New Mexico to get his truck since it couldn't get here like it was supposed to, another adventure), I went for breakfast late and met a man at Millie's Restaurant that was a vintage bike racer. He invited me to his shop and I snapped a few pictures.

I then went to the Le Brea tar pits museum and on to the Peterson Automotive Museum. The tar pit stunk and even though it was interesting seeing the fossils, that side trip didn't do much for me. I then went down Wilshire Blvd to the Peterson Automotive Museum and got in for free, because I honestly forgot to pay for my way in after visiting the snack bar for some peanuts. There was a movie being shot there, Notorious (B.I.G.), the life and death of a rapper. Meaningless to me, as I have been around video production before, I just shrugged and started taking pictures.

Oh yeah, the shot of my boss getting friendly with the CHP/Aircraft patrol units.....91 in a 70.

I have spoken to Douglas @ www.werentmotorcycles.com about renting a C14 for a day. Hopefully my work schedule will allow for me to plan a day or two in advance to get as many miles in as possible. Really would like to go to the Rock Store, and the other places I have read about for decades.

Was that white car (with the red "M") from Speed Racer?? I thought they only built one of the Matchbox twin engine cars - from memory a red one.

It is good to look at the older bike from a time when they were built, not merely assembled.

Have fun on the rest of your trip, hope you get the C14, and dont laugh at the boss toooooo much for getting busted.

Thanks for sharing! Reminds me that I gotta get out more! Must be a lotta fun building and working on those bikes. I'm sure a lot less complicated than today's machines. There's a lot of hype surrounding that movie in some circles. I wasn't aware that they'd even started shooting yet. Kewl.

Those certainly are vintage bikes. Its cool seeing Speeds ride. We used to have a auto museum around here that had a working version of the Batmobile from the TV series. The owner would take it out once in a while. That sounds like a great work assignment that you are on.

That was Speed Racer's actual prototype for a TV show that didn't make it. It was rear engine, leading me to believe that it was a Porsche (VW?).

Here is a picture of the Tim Burton Batman movie car. Tucked away in a corner; couldn't get a clear shot with my Nokia cell phone camera. Couple of other fast cars also......

The vintage poster was in the Triumph shop/garage.

Hey if you ever get back to SoCal and have time to ride a little further south... you need to do the Ortega HY74 and Palomar Mountain (off HY 76)
Couple of good watering holes to check out while there are 'The Look Out' on Ortega, and Mothers at the top of Palomar Mountain. Lots of great riding out here these are just a couple...
