then overnight ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam in mid september

we have ten days to travel with the middle weekend at monza for the F1
does anybody have some info on the best roads / places to visit on route
or the best places / hotels to stay at - and somewhere for a tyre change at half distance.

I dont know where you can buy tires, but i can give you a few tips of nice mountain roads.
You could head straight for Strassbourg, then head south through the wine district of Alsace, (and taste the wine) .
Then head for Bern - Martigny in Switzerland. Now there are many roads to choose from.
I would go over the Grand St Bernhard pass to Aosta. Then down the Aosta valley to Milan-Monza.
On the way home, take the old road over St Gotthard pass to Andermatt. Then you can choose to go west over Furkapass and Grimselpass, or north past Gøschenen, and Sustenpass. Both great raods and stunning view. You can continue to Interlaken, Go up to Grindelwald and take the train to Jungfraujoch at4156 m. Its expensive but unbelievable!

These are roads i have driven myself, with great pleasure. There are other alternatives that might be as good as these.
Have a nice trip, and drive carefully....

On your way back, you can go by the international meet and greet happening of the dutch Blackbirdownersclub. Last year it was a big succes. We tried to establish a dutch record of 100 blackbirds, but in total there appeared 161 blackbirds. The happening starts on friday the 19th, but the meet and greet will be on sunday the 21st of september.
