Hi all,

Just want to report on my first major mission since picking up my 2000 FI Bird.

Left Singapore at 0430 on Saturday morning - met two buddies (on Fazer 1000 and Kawa Z1000 but they are nice guys really). Crossed over into Malaysia - a bit of 150mph behaviour before stopping for breakfast. Then fuel stops only and never dropping below 100mph. Press on through northern Malaysia to the Thai border - cross over into Thailand at about 15h00. Arrive at the coastal town of Songkhla at 19h00. Get water and ashes chucked all over us by locals -it is their new year and a tradition to soak each other. Find hotel rooms then ride to the beachfront for dinner. Beer and sleep.

The next morning my friends set off for the West coast of Thailand. (Not before I spotted Fabien's passport flying out of his jacket pocket at 80mph- retrieved it from the middle of a busy highway. Phew)

I had to work today so rode back on my own - started at 08h00. Managed to give a Malaysian hooligan on CBR 1000 RR a good hiding - he gave up after a half hour trying to beat me. Then came the massive tropical rainstorm...

Got back to the Singapore border post at 19h00. Almost 1300 miles in one overnight trip.

A bit achey but in good shape. Blackbird is covered in flies and dust but never missed a beat - didn't even use any oil.

Anyone else RIDE their bike this weekend?

Rode from Gold Coast to Sydney (about 1000 klms) to see a Pink Floyd concert and then slept under the stars that night, then headed off in the morning for home.
Ahhhh ! ... Those were the days ! .................................... Young, invincible and stupid
But Geeeeeez ! It was worth it .... Pink Floyd were great !

Dale also has a weekend where he rode 3150 miles a few years ago. Best I've done is Atlantic to Pacific in 41 hours on the bird (a bit under 2500 miles).

1600 km in 18 hours on NZ backroads - one of the Grand Challenge 1000 miles in 24 hours events run by the Rusty Nuts Club - they're associated with the Iron Butt association. Have done 4 of them now, plus their Southern Cross round NZ in 5 days event.
