Nothing formal or TOO organized, just good roads (and hopefully good weather), on 4/26/2008. This gives time for people to plan. These maps are what I snatched off the er, map site.
I usually ride up Hwy. 400, top off at the Chevron @ Hwy. 60 and ride a few miles up the road to Danny's Restaurant for breakfast. Then up 60 to ride around in sport tour mode since I don't like riding the same road more than once all day. Depending on how many are able to show up determines where we go. There are lots of roads to enjoy if we stay in GA.
However, if you have the stamina for a l-o-n-g day ride, we could do a 3 state tour into TN, and back through NC on the way back to GA. This is a very long day riding the Cherohala Skyway and then southeast into Franklin TN, and Hwy 28 into NC, then Hwy 441 to GA and slab it home. I have done this before, leaving my home in Conyers @ 5:00am and after food, gas and *necessary* breaks return home about 9:00pm. Really grates on my wife when I do this, but she gets over it since she knows how much good it does me!
Check out these sites for lodging if you wish to stay up north. www.twowheelsonlycom www.tennessehosts.com/ducktown.htm
Moto related overnight places have popped up in the last couple of years in north GA, (and TN/NC) but I don't know if they are still operational.
There are other places to stay in Blue Ridge, Blairesville, and Hiawasse. Just hit the Google button and add lodging to the city. As I recall, the Ocoee Copper Inn is a bit of a dive. Maybe it has been remodeled.
Also, the map page on Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC as well. I have ridden the Dragon several times and have learned this: Lots of squids and posers there after 10:00am, especially on weekends. If you have never ridden it, you need to do it at least once. Be warned however, the LEOs really clamped down on the riding as you will read on the excellent site run by Ron and Nancy. Super folks, really easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the area.
I have been itching to get back up to the Cherohala since my one ride up there last year. You kinda have to build up to needs of a long trip. And plenty of Aleve the night before!
Any takers?
Well, for some reason, maps 1,2, & 4 didn't load. I will submit another post.

The Cherohala Skyway starts in Tellico Plains TN and ends in Robbinsville NC.
Hope the next maps load!
DRATS! To many KB. I will shrink them a bit and try again. |

I'll be staying in Etowah, TN.(a little west of Tellico Plains) on 4/27 and riding the skyway and dragon on 4/28. Unfortunately we'll have to start heading back to St. Louis via the interstate by early afternoon sometime.

Danny's is located @ 1203 S. Chestatee St., Dahlonega GA. I call it Hwy 60. The map page calls it Hwy 19. As you head north to Dahlonega, from Hwy. 400, it is on the right, before a uphill right hand sweeper.
I will be there (weather permitting) about 8-8:30am on 4/26/08. Might have a GSXR 750 friend with me.

I did a scouting ride yesterday on a portion of the route I want to take. I will be staying in Dawsonville on Sat. night for the ride to the Cherohala Skyway on Sunday.
Kinda cool and windy at Neals Gap/Blood Mtn. yesterday, but man was the air clean. Spring has not completely arrived at the upper altitudes, but there are lots of things blooming.
A Corvette club made a pass up to Blood Mtn. and then went back down 129. Mostly Z06 models. I rode up to Blue Ridge lake and took a break at the dam, then rode down Aska Rd. and had lunch at the outstanding Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, where I asked about the party room. It is free/first come first serve and you can see the parking lot to keep an eye on the bikes. I'll post the proposed route later on in the week.
