Hi Guys,

My USA trip is all sorted for June this year starting New York when I collect my XX from Newark docks. Now its question time.

I have breakdown cover in UK but will not have any in US, is it worth trying to join AAA in the states? Is it worth it for any motel discounts I am likely to get on the road? Do I need a permanent addresss in the states to join?

Is it worth bothering?

Just so you now I will be over for 10 weeks travelling NY to Seattle on US20 and back again on US2 and cutting south to NY.

I will be on a blue XX which will have Isle of Man licence plates - give us a wave.

HRC membership will cover you where AAA won't. Medical insurance is a must. You may already know, but it won't hurt to tell you, make sure you have point of purchase documents for US customs and your return home. If you're using a travel agent ask them about a carnet, a document certifying ownership.

If your southern return brings you through Southern Utah, give us a shout.

Medical insurance is all sorted, tons of it so should not be a problem. Also got all docs covered together with copies of copies.

Thanks for the offer of a meet but I think the closest I will get to you is Idaho Falls or Boise

Just come to Texas and travel in one state. Save you all that time and effort driving through 10 or 15!!!

Actually you would. Mountains, desert, hill country, and the coast. I have lived in this state over 20 years and haven't seen but a 1/3 of it so far.
Look up Big Bend National Park sometime. I hear its beautiful and one of the least visited parks in the USA because it's so far from anything. It's actually over a 9 hour ride from where I live. Of course your road trip that you are planning will very nice though.

Just something to ponder...........

Pjnxx, thanks for the information, however do not get to NY till 9th June as I cannot leave the Isle of Man till after the TT races which finish on the 7th (work states that no-one can have annual leave during TT period - plus I do not want to miss the races)

I will be running down from Montreal at the end of the trip in order to get back to NY so will at least hopefully see some good roads.

If you get to western colony of BC, I'll show you some fun riding. There's a decent Hostel on the beach, you can camp.

hello canadianbird.
I went up into BC last summer and road around the Nelson area and stayed at Toad Rock, Is that the camping spot you mentioned? We had a blast there. It is a motorcycle only camping area. Owned by a couple that started it for there Hardly Ableson friends. Look it up online. It is a fun place in the heart of the best roads in Canada

No, but I've ridden by there. Personally I don't want to camp unless it's a motel. I was referring to Vancouver, on the beach. I'm not free for daily rides till July 1st. Did you cross the border at Creston up the Idaho PanHandle? I've ridden #2 & #20 many times.

Longtail, where ever you ride in the US you should enjoy it. Try to get into Utah State Parks. Try to ride Bear Tooth Pass, cross the continental divide.
Check out www.destinationhighways.ca Cheers.

15th won't work, as that's Father's Day over here, and I don't think my kids or my wife would be too happy with me , but Monday the 16th bears some possibilities. Like I said........keep me posted or PM me
