Riding two-up beginning Friday the 18th early morning to get through Vegas and then Baker (I-15) before the heat of the day, on to Bakersfield on 58, 99 till we cross over to I-5 north to 580 West into the city. Return on Sunday.
Shot in the dark, but if you're on the road...

FYI - The Bay to Breakers running race is Sunday in San Francisco. The city will be crowded. Extra 100,000 people. It's a real race for some runners but most are dressed up as ???????? for the fun of it. It's a sight, but if you are trying to get around the city stay out of downtown.

Thanks, both of you. Vern, Hope you're feeling better.
We're in San Rafael, hopefully out of the fray of the Bay.

If you're coming through Southern Utah give us a heads up. I'll PM you contact info.
We logged 1675 miles on our trip. The fun stuff began in the Bay Area on the way to Stinson Beach. went as far as Pont Reyes Lighthouse, then took Sir Francis Drake down through the Redwoods into Fairfax and into San Rafael.
The following day we hopped onto 101 over the Gate and through the city. Record time on 19th/PCH1 just before the Bay-to-Breakers.
On to Pacifica and the PCH to Santa Cruz where we saw the only other BlackBird on the trip. No wave though. Funny. Must not be a member of this site.
Monterey, then onto the twisties through Big Sur, Lucia and into San Simeon - our favorite spot where we were married on the beach a few years back. Highly recommend the Best Western Cavalier Inn in San Simeon. Very accomodating with complementary champaign, ocean views, great rooms.
In Cambria our favorite haunt is the Moonstone Bar and Grill on Moonstone Ave.
The next morning we went through the wine country of Paso Robles an then 46 into Bakersfield and the rest went by too fast to talk about.
It's a great time of year to rid the PCH. Didn't see a single recreational cager and the rest seemed to be locals for the most part who know the drive and are courteous and considerate to bikes. In fact, riding in Caifornia is such a pleasure, no hostilities, drivers know what the left lane is all about, and when you stop, locals actually smile and talk. A far cry from Southern Utah - except for us. We'll smile and wave to you.

First off, thanks for the well wishes. I do feel better, the shoulder is still sore but the bone is mending. Wife is still unwilling to let ride yet though. (2 more weeks )
Second, sounds like a wonderful trip. It's akin to the type of riding I like to do. 1500 in a few days is perfect blend of riding and sightseeing. Keep the ride reports coming - it's the only way I keep sane with the lack of recent riding time.

Sounds like you had a great trip ImNoSaint. I go down the coast to Monterey alot but have not gone further South. I do most of my riding North to the wine country up in Napa. I've never riden in Utah but I'm not sure California is a "non-hostile" environment for bikes. But we do get to ride year round Wasn't me you passed. I wave! |

Hey there ImNoSaint -
Just letting you know I am in your neck of the woods (Kanab).
I don't have my XX yet, but will be picking up in VA in July. My brother is picking up his at the same time and we will end up here or in WA state at the end of the trip. Still figuring out the route, but pretty sure it will be south for Deal's Gap, then either a southern tour or up to Colorado to visit friends.
Not sure when I will be back, but we will definitely have to hook up for a ride.
BTW, moved here from Brooklyn about a year and a half ago. Cultural whiplash.

In Napa I need someone else doing the driving since I don't spit the samples.

Kaya (Tom), if you do the Southern route, let's hook up. We do the Grand Canyon, Lee's Ferry before and after Labor/Memorial days.
We'll see what we can do about that cultural whiplash. One hint is that Utah micro-brewed beer is 4.0 as opposed to the regulated 3.25.
