Okay,
I have sent out an e-mail to those that attended this year and got a few responses back. If you did not get to attend this year and want to make next year you need to speak up, I will be checking for the availability of The Ridge where we stayed this year. The house sleeps 9 but you can get roll beds as well, I know it is a DRY county but I assure you that we had no problem getting alchohol so if that was your excuse this year you cannot use it.

I will post more details as things progress. I have decided unless someone has a better idea that I will go with the same dates as posted April 13,14,15 and have looked at the availability of The Ridge. This weekend is open so far and so far we would be half way there from paying the fee assumimg it was the same as earlier this year, Of course when I start talking to the owner I will be looking for a monitary commitment.

I contacted Ron ( owner of The Ridge ) and he has us penciled in for the weekend of April 13,14,15. The price is the same as last year and that is $30 a night per person and the place sleeps 8 and then there is the option to get some roll beds for anyone else that wants to sleep at The Ridge. I know that Ken and myself are in for sure so that leaves 6 beds to fill to pay for the weekend. Anything we get over that can be used to pay for a group dinner or something. All this assuming that the people that stay at The Ridge stay Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
As usual, Ken and myself will leave Thursday evening after work and drive part way and arrive mid afternoon on Friday. I still have all the ride directions and routes from last year, but am open to planning some other rides if need be or you submit a route yourself.
If you are in for staying at The Ridge please e-mail me back and include whatever nights you are wanting to stay. From there I will request a payment from you to help with securing The Ridge for that weekend. We can either do it all thru Pay Pal ( there is usually a fee ) or you all can just send me a check for your share.
Any alchohol refreshments need to be requested now also and that will be taken into account for your payment since they can stock the fridge for us, but payment will be required when we arrive for the special services

Let Me know guys, and if you know someone else feel free to bring them along, the more the merrier.

Well the list is growing so if you want to join us feel free to post in this thread. There are plenty of hotels or camp grounds close by that can accomodate others if we run out of room at The Ridge. Unless someone posts some other routes I am suggesting last years routes only this time we need to make it to Breakfast buffet unlike this year.

Amazing that we can have 98 views and no real responses to this thread. I guess there is nobody within riding/trailering distance that is interested in joining us for this event. Come on guys last year there were guys that said they wanted to come but had work to do to their bikes well you have had a whole year to get your bike sorted. Join us and have a good time riding in the twisties.

In reality, that depends on the expectations of the fast group. I admit that I am one of those guys who mostly got my yaya's out on the track, so my happy pace isn't quite as 'edgy' shall we say, as it once was. But I'm all about leading groups, am all about The Pace, and I've been to the area around The Gap at least 25 times, so if it turns out you really do need someone to lead rides, that's no problem at all. It's been a couple of years since I've been, but I still know plenty of great loops and know how to include or omit hairy roads, relaxing roads, etc. as folks see fit (anyone besides me love that nasty road that cuts through the Joyce Kilmer Forrest on the way to the Cherahala? ).

Now, that said...a story:

Several years ago I was on a weekender with my wife Carrie (gf at the time) on my 84 Honda V65 Sabre and we made a stop for lunch at The CroT. As it happens, we sat with some nice guys out on the patio, two of whom were on matching (IIRC) black Blackbirds. While we were sitting there, those 2 gents decided to take a ride up the gap and back. They were gone a while longer than expected, and their buddies started to worry a bit. I wanted to take a solo trip up and down one time before we left, so I said I'd go up there, and make sure everything was ok.

I made my way up the mountain, and just before I got to the overlook at the top, a p/u truck towing a boat went by me on the way down, with 7 or 8 bikes stacked up behind it, and 2 of those were the XX dudes...all good. I hung a quick U turn and caught up behind the gang just as the truck pulled off to let everyone by (yay me). Over the course of the next bit I picked my way through the bikes...and R6 here, a couple dudes on GSXRs there, and by now the XX guys, who had ratcheted up the pace a bit, were ahead of the rest. I caught up behind them, and after following for a bit, passed one, then the other, and made my way down the hill. When I got to the bottom, I parked in front of the patio, and let the buddies know that all was well, and that they'd be along shortly.

At that time I was wearing a really cool DuHamel replica Shoei that Carrie had bought for me (the silver one with the Dragon on it) so it was pretty recognizable, along with the 80's bike and me being 300 pounds...hard to miss. So I was sitting with the guys and the XX guys dismounted and came up to the table. One said something like "man, we just saw this big guy on some old POS bike coming down the hill an..." at which point he caught sight of my helmet on the table, pointed at it, looked at me, and said, "hey, that was you!" then he remembered the POS comment and tried to backpedal a little because he's a nice guy, and I assured him that it was ok, because compared to a double-x is is a POS . Anyway, we all had a laugh, and Carrie and I went on our way.

Could this have been any of you guys? This trip might be your chance at retribution! That weekend happened before I ever raced, so I'm much more sedate on the road now.

It's a shame we never met when I was riding my 3rd Gen Magna --- I liked to stomp on V65's. A good friend of mine owned one and he was also fast on it. I think I totaled my bike the last time I rode with this group. We weren't going that fast --- I just haven't learned how to ride yet.

I won't be able to join this time since my baby is graduating from college 5/3 which will use up available money. You guys have fun and be careful.

Not to worry dave, when I say the fast group you only need ride at a spirited pace. I could be wrong, but I dont think anyone will be looking for brake neck speeds.

So ya, I'm always happy to lead rides if folks would like someone to do that.

We will see what happens Dave, I usually lead but I am thinking that we will have a few more skill levels this year than in the past and feel that there may need to be a slower group ( the one I would lead most likely ). I should have forwarded the routes to you in a previous e-mail when we got you hooked up. Look them over and see if you have any suggestions or what.

I looked over your routes and like most of them. I can help you with some of the routes in Ga. You picked some good ones already, but riding 76 to Blairsville? Leave that road to the pirates.
