Re: How to change the digital odometer from Miles to Km on Blackbird !

This info relates to the 2007 1000RR, but may be applicable to the digital dash of the 1100xx. Not only will it change the odometer indication from km's to miles but it will also change the speedo readout in like fashion,...which only makes sense of course. Cut and Paste of info follows:

This info relates to the "O7" (1000RR-Repsol) model but may work for others also.

You only have a couple buttons to push the "Reset" and the "Sel"(select) buttons. With these buttons you can cycle through all the required changes to clock and mph/kph selections,..but the must be done in order.

First on the list is the clock setting.

1)Turn the key/ignition on then press the "Reset" and "Sel" buttons at the same time and hold for 2 seconds or more.

2)The clock will now be in the "adjust mode" with the hour display flashing. To set the correct hour push the "Reset" again until the desired hour shows.

3) Press "Sel" button to lock in the hour selection,..the minute display will then start flashing. Push the Reset until the correct/desired minute is displayed,..then press "Sel" again to lock this one in.

4)If the clock time is good as you start this process you simiply cycle through the above actions by pressing "Sel" to hold the clock display numbers as they are, but you still need to cycle through the adjustment steps. You need to hit the "Sel" button within 30 seconds or the process shutsdown and you will not advance on to the speed indication select mode.

5) With the clock portion complete hit "Reset" again...this will take you to the speed/odometer/trip meter unit selection. The display will flash mph or kph depending on which units are currently in use. Press the "Reset" until the units you want are shown flashiing When your desired selection is flashing on the display push the "Sel" button.

6) Turn off the key/ignition and the new units will be locked in.

HTH.

Tony

Not all XX electronic dash's are able to be set to kph/mph but for those that can you do need to press the rest and select buttons at the same time and hold them.

I cant remember which position the ignition needs to be in for it to happen though..

P.S Australian dashs are an example of fixed readout..

I have a 06 UK bird in which you can only change the speedo between mph and km for travel to europe but the odometer remains in miles

My Canadian '02 Bird changes from kph to mph, when I travel in the States. It does it as stated above. I wouldn't want to be in the USA without mph. No change in odometre. I just wish the turn signals were self cancelling.

CB,
There are retro-fit units that will allow you to install a "self cancelling" module to your machine if you desire. My local Honda dealer has just such a unit on the wall, but I do not remember the name brand at the moment, but can check brand and price when next I viist them. In the meantime here's a link to just such a unit:

Self-Canceling Turn Signal Module

I know the one at the local dealer is smaller then a box of matches (if the gray matter is not failing me), but I do not know how such a unit inter-grates into the bike electrical system.

Sorry for the thread jack.

Back on topic: As I have a 98 model year which does not include anything digital on the dash other then the clock (which keeps amazing good time) I use the GPS unit as a mph speed read out when traveling in the USA. If you wish to go an even cheaper route you can install a battery operated bicycle speedo (which I also had install prior to the GPS unit) which will give you time, distance traveled, speed in kph or mph to 300kph, and many other features like pulse rate (if you've just got to know it). I've install a Cat Eye unit to the bars and it's was rather painless. Total cost about $20.00 and my time.

Too bad, 'cause it apparently includes a hazard function, but it's only good on Harley-type set-ups.

Thanks for the link. Howeve, as stated, it wont work on the '02 Bird. I'm just being lazy. Although I hate those peeps who leave their blinkers blinking for blocks. GPS in on my list for all it's additional features. Cheers.

I'll have to check on that Shewie.

Forgot to mention,..the Cat Eye bicycle unit was a means to get a more accurate speed indication on the bike, not for any of the other features it came with. I hated to be going an indicated 110 or 120 kph (on the factory speedo) and still be passed by everybody else.
