MAG organized protest ride against possible EU legislation for bikes/bikers – Sunday

I know politics is off the map on this forum so I appoligise if this infringes upon ,,, etc. I have to make the UK guys aware of this, due to some rather stupid laws being proposed by the EU ... We are having a little lawful protest on Sunday all over the UK .....

Follow the link to the MAG website for meeting places, start times and info re-proposed legislation –

    Motorcycle Action Group

Please don’t just disregard this, at least check the link out and then any decision you make about taking part, or not, will be an informed decision.

    Cheers Scraps.

p.s. I'll either be at Woolley edge or Tibshelf ....

I will be heading out to Leigh Delamere with 'TheDuck' (baffle fitted) since the plod are often rather 'heavy handed' at these events. The proposals to stop 'tampering' - in other words fitting of any parts that are not OE/manufacturer approved would not only stop my 'hobby' (OK I will just keep modding 'old' bikes but how long before they are included?) but also vastly increase costs and knacker the aftermaket businesses.

It will be great to see a stretch of the M4 that I have only seen 10 times so far this week .................. this time will be a little slower!

Scrappy.. There is politics and there are "political issues" If you want to discuss liberal vs labour, Democrat or republican then its going to get canned..

This is a politcal issue.. as long as we concentrate on the "issue" and the getting it resolved and not degrade into a debate on which stupid party would allow such a travesty then there is nothing wrong with this post.....

I lived for some time in Germany, and for this guys it is like that for years now. If they want to change something on their bike, it has to be approved by the german MOT (TUV). Even if you want to put a different tyre on your bike, it has to be approved and marked in the papers that go with your bike ( don't know what it is in english)

Cheers for your support Duck, yea the tampering thing could be a nightmare and I don't really think they have thought it through ... also auto throttle control, criky will there be a day when we can sit on our bikes and read the newspaper while the bike negotiates the traffic ... it's all a bit surreal. But at least if we can make ourselves heard ... not sure they will listen but if we don't do it we wont know.

Cheers Ugly, wasn't sure on the site's policy

Barbancourt: Hopefully if they listen to us then any effect might be rippled through europe and such silly timewasting and costly things will be history ... But you know how much German beaurocrats like their paperwork

There are too many issues that are lurking in the 'discussion document' to get your head around and many more that can be written in at a later date depending on how you read the documents.

As for electronic control of your bike (constant speed monitoring and adjustment) if that had been present on 'Daily Bird' during last weeks commute I would probably now be another 'statistic' and people would again be calling for the banning of these dangerous machines!

.............. on the other hand I will consider buying a Bike that has a 3 mode filtering control
    1. Filter
    2. Filter with predudice
    3. Filter with extreme predudice

Wow what a turn out we had, I ended up at Woolley Edge and the numbers must have been in the hundreds, from trikes to scooters and a vespa!

We created some big tailbacks, weather held out with only the odd spot of rain. Just hope we made enough of a statement.

you made a statement allright .. yeah... you just managed to p**s of loadsa car drivers who already dont like us very much and have nothing to do with the laws being passed.

as much as i think these laws are total bull i cant help but think that slow road blocks are not the answer.

take the blockade of the petrol refineries and the rolling road blocks from the lorries, because petrol went towards the £1 per litre mark, what we on now ... £1.33?, they really worked then didnt they

if all the bikers who took part in the road blocks wrote to thier mp and asked for representation of thier opinion it may just get through ??

untill we play the government at thier own game all we succeed in doing is an exercise in futility.

I was out on the M11 and our ride like many others turned in to a total blockage encouraging some drivers to do dangerous things to get through.

    We need their support too.

I think the UK bikers may have shot themselves in the foot.
