Trip to Austria
So, bike is almost packed. Looks a bit like a mule. Guess this is normal if you plan to stay away for 2 or 3 weeks with luggage for 2 persons.
Tomorrow morning we will leave Ghent early in the morning, just to avoid the traffic around Brussels. Destination for the first day is Lam in Germany. A place close to the Czech border. I hope the weather is OK, because it is a trip of approx 850 km, and I DON'T LIKE RAIN!!!!!
The day after we are off to Vienna. But that's for later. Will try to post something tomorrow with some news of the day.

Re: Trip to Austria
Today was a very long ride, 857 km. Boring because most highway. Weather was ok, with the exeption of the rain we had during almost 200 km.
Pictures? well from the hotel here it would take forever. Will try later this week.
But for now, it is almost ime to go to bed (after finishing my beer)

Re: Trip to Austria
Today no ride with the bike. Instead of that, we visited Vienna, or at least a small part of it. The city is huge, and I guess you could spend a week or more to see this beautiful city. The weather is more than ok, even maybe a bit too warm. Tomorrow we leave Vienna, and go to our initial destination : Kärnten.I hope the weather stays ok. If so, I'll try to post some pictures from the mountains over there. For now I am enjoying a large beer on a terras, not too far from the hotel.

With a pillon that is rather a lot of kms in one day, imo. I've travelled two up with my wife on several occasions and I try to limit myself to 600-650 kms. We don't ride at night! Also, we focus on the mountains, coasts etc and do not ride into large cities. No do we commute when in a city. I no longer commute even in Vancouver. Good Luck and enjoy. You younger guys have an advantage.
You don't need that blue pill.

Re: Trip to Austria
First of all I am not that young anymore. 54 is not what you can call a teen-ager. But anyway, I like long rides as long as my physical condition allows it.Today it was a "short" trip, 385 km to Treffen, a place in the south of Austria, close to the Italian and Slovenian border. Very nice area. Tomorrow, depending the weatherconditions we hopefully can do our first ride in the mountains. For now the weather is still OK, but the forecast is like very wet. Wait and see!

Re: Trip to Austria
So, yesterday we came back home from our 6000 km trip to Austria. How it was? IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!! I think that Kärnten, the southern part of Austria, is one of the nicest places in Europe to drive a motorbike. The roads are nice and in a good to very good condition. If you like to drive hairpins, well you won't be dissapointed. One road had 50 tight hairpins in a row. Of course don't misunderstand me, not every hairpin is the the same. Some are so tight that you hardly came trough with the Blackbird. You realise that this is not the ideal bike for that kind of work. The Beemer GS is much better for this roads. But anyway we had a super time. The weather was ok, of course we had some rain, but that can't stop you from riding.
Will post some pictures later.

50 turns? where in carinthia?

Re: Trip to Austria
Well, it is just across the border in Slovenia. The name is Vrsic Paß. You even don't have to count the turns, they are all marked.
