Maybe a stupid question, but what temp can I expect on the tops of the Alps in Austria? Don't know exactly what clothing I have to take with me, or on me.

at 3000m to 4000m you have below 0°C from time to time right now. are you climber? austrian site: Bergwetter - Tirol - ZAMG link is for tyrolia.
No, I am not a climber, but the weather forecast for the next week, and maybe after that are not so good. So, is always interesting to know before I pack my stuff on the bike. As from what I have seen now, a decent rainsuit will be needed :-(
I just hope I won't have to make my first day, which will be a long one (850km) in the rain. I hate it!!!
never ever leave the house without a rubber catsuit! how long are you in europe?!?! you australian?![]()
Australian???? Just look below my avatar. I'm from Belgium. Depending on the weather, up to 3 weeks.
Maybe I could take my diving drysuit ;-)
if you want to visit the salzkammergut the scuba rubber might be an improovement![]()
Normally we go first to Wien, and then we stay one week in Treffen. After that we will see. Everything depends on the weather.
hey Barbancourt!
the temps on the higher mountain passes are between 15 and 25°C in Summer. the air is relatively cool, but the sun still warms you.
BUT right now the weather is extremely cold (for july) and I fear that some passes are way below 15°C these days. hope the weather will get better soon!
do you want to tell us more about the routes you plan?
hope you know about the Grossglockner: Grossglockner High Alpine Road -one of THE highlights in all of the alps!
also, try to get into the south tyrolian dolomites...
cheers,
Mikey
Well, everybody knows that the 'bird is the word!
Demon, I indeed plan to go to the "Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße", as well as a Italy trip. Found, I hope, some good tours on Motorradland Kärnten Österreich - motorrad.kaernten.at Das Onlineportal für Ihren Motorrad-Urlaub! - Carinthia, Austria, Kärnten. I guess u know that website. But, since it is your homecountry, any good advice is always more than welcome.
This afternoon I checked some webcams in the mountains, and it is cold right now. Some places showed around 6° C, and this is, even for someone from Belgium cold.
As I said before, don't hesitate to advice me on nice roads to do.

looks like a good website, but I couldn't get the touring-app working.
anyway -this is the one region of austria I don't know so well, so you better stick with what you find on the website(s).
I know the german automobile club (adac) has a great little map you can get for free, with the best routes for biking in austria. maybe the austrian club has them too. I try to find out for you -because a map like that can safe your day sometimes (worked for me).
cheers,
Mikey
ps. sorry for the weather!!
Well, everybody knows that the 'bird is the word!
ok looks like the map was available in the öamtc places as well as in the german adac. its called:
"Strassenkarten ADAC - Motorradtouren" and there is one for austria, and one for the dolomites etc.
it's very simple but effective - I can recommend it!
cheers,
Mikey

Great, thx. Will have a closer look at it. Hope the weather gets a little better. But our first stop will be Wien anyway.
