Ban pre 2004 Motorcycles from French Cities
As a regular rider in France (generally on 'daily bird', a 99 model) I like to keep abrest with what is going on in France.
It appears the environmental fascists are having another go ..........
Motorcycles may be banned from cities in France ! « UK France bikers.com
'interestingly' post 1997 cars would be OK.
Can't see this going through but don't forget the French still want (and have been recently pressing for) the rest of Europe to come in line with the 100bhp limit they have.

Other than the hefty speeding penalties, it appears it's now compulsory for motorcyclists to wear reflective gear.
Also in addition to the existing bans on radar/laser detectors, GPS based speed camera warning systems including ones on smartphones or even marked paper maps are also now becoming illegal.
Google translation:
Hit and high speed, increased penalties against driving while intoxicated and phone usage while driving ... The government arrested Wednesday a new set of measures to enhance safety on the roads.
The Interministerial Committee on Road Safety, convened an emergency by Matignon to curb rising road deaths, met Wednesday morning and led to several measures.
First line: the fight against speeding. Today contravention of the 5th class, speeding over 50 km / h becomes a misdemeanor first offense. The offender, who is currently exposed to 1500 euro fine and 6 points in less liable now three months in prison, 3750 € fine, a loss of 6 points with mandatory confiscation of the vehicle.
Another measure taken to reduce speeding, banning all the alarms of radar. In addition to the radar detectors, already prohibited the type of community alarms or alert iCoyote GPS available on mobile phones and GPS, will also be illegal.
Signs indicating the presence of fixed speed cameras will also be deleted maps and equipment will not be made public. "Information on the positioning of speed cameras in fact encourages some drivers to not respect the rules of proximity to their speeds," said in a statement Matignon, who also announced the deployment of 1,000 new aircraft by the end of 2012. "The next generation mobile radars, to monitor the speed of users from service vehicles, or semi-mobile (movable to secure areas such as construction sites) will be tested this year."
Eight points off above 0.8 g / l
BAC, the track considered to reduce the statutory rate of 0.5 gram per liter of blood was dropped to 0.2. However, any rate higher than 0.8 g / L will be punished by the withdrawal of eight points, instead of the current six. The ability to conduct a blood test for the alcohol or the presence of drugs following a positive test conducted by law enforcement, previously reserved for doctors, will be extended to nurses . Driving while alcohol multiplies by 8 the risk of being involved in a fatal crash, says Matignon.
Another workhorse of government: the fight against phones while driving. The violations for phone use - in hand - driving the move from second class to class 4, which will result in a withdrawal of three points instead of two. Traffic on the hard shoulder emergency, banned, will also be more severely punished by a fine of 135 euros and a withdrawal of three points.
The IMC has finally adopted a final set of measures to further secure the use of motorbikes. The number plates of motorcycles and scooters will be larger in order to facilitate control. Motorcycle drivers must wear a reflective equipment and those who resumed the use of a motorcycle without a driving two-wheelers for the past five years will require training.
Rest to the government to exercise pedagogy to educate drivers to the new measures. Matignon announces initiation and road safety conducted by way of experimentation in 80 high schools will be gradually extended from September 2011. A new National Council for Road Safety "in the enlarged" will also be met, the government promises, without setting a date.

Actually I like France (and the French! ......... most of the time), riding over there is a breath of fresh air compared to life on the roads in the UK, which perhaps says as much about the UK as it does France!
