Possible Project BB
Guys I'm looking at this as a project:
2000 HONDA CBR 1100XX BLACKBIRD,FOR SPARES OR REPAIRS | eBay UK
Firstly, let me know if any of you are bidding on it and I'll drop out!
Second, any caveats with it? As I'm not sure about the destruction order on it ....

Re: Possible Project BB
"very light damage"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
What are you planning? Says it needs a frame to go back on the road.Pictures are not that good, bound to have a lot more damage than what it looks like.
And no key, would that have a Hiss system in 2000 ?
If the bidding doesn't go much higher if would be good for spares.

Re: Possible Project BB
Good luck with it mate!
ANY bike is worth as a project bike. It's just how much YOU want it and what its worth to you..
At the end of the day, a project's meaning in my book, is not a money-earner. Its good if it turns up in one, but its not the world..

Re: Possible Project BB
but has a police destruction order against the chassis number That is an interesting remark, apart from when several forces drilled holes in Pan Frames (their own bikes that they didn't feel were safe) to make certain that the bikes didn't go back on the road the police do not get involved in ordering destruction!
My feeling is that the upper mount for the lower faring mount has been knocked off (or bent into the frame) thereby writing off the frame making it a Category C write off. This was changed in 2002 (approx) to a bolt on item that 'avoided' this issue - well at least you can replace the lug as I had to with The Duck. If the bike was re-built with a new frame there is the distinct possibility that you would end up with a 'Q' plate depending on the frame age and history.
As parts there appears to be a few bobs worth on there but the photos are far from clear (normally I would expect some more close ups) - for instane I can't make out if the tank is dented or it is the sun!
If I was looking for a 'put back on the road' I wouldn't buy that bike (Go for a CAT D - much less legal hassle) for spares I would look at it first. As a profit making opportunity can't see much in it!
Note 'The Duck' was a lower level of write off (CAT D) when I bought it (First Page Building "The Duck"), so this Bike certainly has something 'nasty' under the skin to make it CAT C.

Re: Possible Project BB
never heard of a police destruction order myself can only think if police catch you with no tax, insurance etc and they confiscate vehicle to be scrapped certainly can't imagine one of those coming back for auction, try ringing VOSA or local police station traffic department

Re: Possible Project BB
Cheers fella's
As always sound advice .....
I was thinking of rebuilding to use as a 'Weekend' bike. But think it will be a bit much in the end (Possibly 2-3 grand spend in the long run & the legal issues)
Oh well ... just a thought

Re: Possible Project BB
Imho its not difficult to re-frame the bike man!
All you need to do is enter the new motor number on the frame's V5 that you get and send it off to the dvla..

Re: Possible Project BB
I'm still toying with the idea ..... Yep the reframe is a doddle, but you know when you get that feeling that something isn't quite right ...... It might be nothing ... we'll see in a couple of hours

Yes I agree, in theory it should be simple but I went through a long winding path just to change 1137 to 1195cc. The big 'danger' is getting a 'Q' plate for 'uncertain age' (later frame used for example with the earlier motor and other running gear - 'they' can call for an inspection to determine the age of the parts used) which makes insurance far more difficult (a lot of companies won't touch Q plates) and the value takes a big hit if the bike is ever sold on (Q plates are notoriously hard to shift).
CAT Ds generally only only get marked down by 10% (max) which is why I would always rebuild that type of write off................. age of parts doesn't come into that type of re-build ................ just as well since The Duck has parts made between 2000 and 2011 on it now and not a lot of them were made by Honda!

Re: Possible Project BB
Just seen your latest post scrappy, other way round the 'issue' is not to reframe but to get another binned bike and do a 2 into 1, the one you are looking at has some good (expensive) bits on it ........... nosecone, dials, one side etc. Find a cheap binned bike that has those expensive bits damaged and you could be laughing with a good straight bike and a decent selection of spares.

Re: Possible Project BB
I guess it all depends on what the new frame is going to come off man...
If its a bike that has been broken for say the motor, with no accident history, then it will not present much trouble..
Even if its called in for inspection, the only thing on it that has been changed is the motor sir, as the old one has died sir..
You get me drift I thinks..

As Elvetost says top price paid for it ................ I've seen far better for £1200/£1300, keep looking and you will find the right deal.

Re: Possible Project BB
Just for info ... mate today told me that police destruction orders are usually issued if the vehicle has been involved with drugs or serious crime ....
