    backfire on over run

    new problem guys.

if i throttle off it goes bang, sounds like unfired fuel going off in the exhaust.
is it a problrm with coils? crank sensor?

fitted 4 new plugs a while back so most likely not that.

    any ideas?

    Re: backfire on over run

We are supposed to have a PAIR system to allow such fuel to combust with a popping sound. I understand these PAIR system do clog so you might be getting a bang when they do ignite.

Perhaps with a piece of wire you could clear the clogged air outlets (provided no one blocked off the PAIR air inlets).

    Re: backfire on over run

The most likely cause is air leaks in the exhaust. Check the joints around the area where the header pipes seal against the exhaust port. There are a lot of things that can cause it but eliminate the simple ones first.

Coils and plug leads would be next on the list.

    Re: backfire on over run

Hole may have been created by fuel exploding in exhaust, did you use quality plugs when you changed them? And did you fit the ht caps back on properly? As you'll get those symptoms with an ill fitting ht lead .... Also check that you put airbox back on correctly

    Re: backfire on over run

That would have to have been a huge explosion! I used to deliberately do this on my '98 by flicking the run/stop switch off/on & NEVER damaged the exhaust.

Where was the hole? if it was at the bottom of the #4 downpipe (rightmost) it would probably be due to it being ground off on right handers. I've seen people with that before...

    Re: backfire on over run

If it's the original steel one it has prolly rusted through ... try running some carb/fuel cleaner through as it might be a stuck float or gummed jet .....

    Re: backfire on over run

Old exhaust off, rotten through so that expalins the running problem.

fitted Delvik down pipes today, good quality and fit well and the best price i could find so its all good! Ran out of light so will finish tomorrow.

When i get it running i will ley you all knowe the out come. Recommend delvic.

    Re: backfire on over run

Did you get a full Delvic exhaust or just the header, they look really nice in photos but have not yet seen one on a bike. Lets us know how you like them and post some photos. I too might go down that road.

    Re: backfire on over run

I fitted headers only and re-used original cans, did`nt have the cash for new cans as well.
I can take a pic of it fully fitted but the plastics are all back on now, sorry. wish i had rear your post sooner. will post soon.
It all very good quality and aligns everywhere no-problem.

Took bike out and it flys,no leaks, no problems.
    Would recommend Delkevic happily.
