Does the Bird have a fuel pump?

Hey guys,

My bird is not running right at high rpms..a mechanic told me its the fuel pump? Do they have fuel pumps or just a fuel valve?

No if Im right and yours is a 97 you do not have a fuel pump if Im right they did not make a fuel pump in the bird till 99

That is correct. 97 98 are carbed without a fuel pump. But there is a filter in the tank that could be causing your problem....99 and up are fuel injected with a pump in the tank.....

As above, if carbed, in tank mesh filter but no pump. If injected, in tank pump.

The 97-98 birds don't have an electric fuel pump, but there is a vacuum operated portion in the petcock which is a valve. Depending on the physics of how it works it may actually pump a small amount. I suppose that might also be a cause and might be what your mechanic is talking about.
