Which cans? What do you have?

Guys,

I would like to buy some cans for my bird, but I do like the quite'ness of the oem ones.

Can anyone suggest any that arn't that loud?

Hi Gareth60. I have a set of Staintunes on mne. You can leave them std at 90 db, or remove the small rear baffles for a truely sexy note at 94 db. Best o luck.

my yoshi rs3 race cans come in at 91.6 db with the baffles in and 96.7 with the baffles out

and sound is logarythmic so a 2 db increase is basically a doubling of noise level

these were tested by the queensland transport dept who was showing people how the noise testing was to be done when it comes into effect NATIONWIDE in australia on 01/01/2009

i was just outside the gas analyser limit (rich) but they said my exhausts would just scrape in noise wise with the baffles in place

i have the full yoshimura exhaust with a carbon fiber can. i love it, but it's not very quiet!!!

I have Scorpion slip on. They are just a bit on the loud side to me but not as loud as the Two Brothers or Yosh, my opinion. I like the Staintunes had them on the last two bikes but Scorpion was on the bike so Scorpion I ride.

I have a pair of the Blue Flame SS, single port cans, and they are slightly louder than the stock cans. I have never taken out the sound resonator/baffle that is held in by a snap ring, because I don't want it to be too loud. I think it sounds just right.

I have a pair of Blue Flame CF oval cans on my bird. They have a fair amount of tone/volume adjustability by either installing or removing the baffles or plugs in their exhaust tips (2/muffler). I generally ride without any installed in the bike and it has a nice mellow burble to it. I installed the lower plugs on my FJR1300 which has the stainless versions for touring with my wife. CF cans, as a general rule, tend to run at a much lower pitch than a steel or TI can due to it's natural sound absorption/harmonic qualities. They also tend to stay fairly cool to the touch (though not the stainless end caps), which is a bonus in my opinion. Swapping out the stock mufflers for the Blue Flames was worth about 14 pounds off of my bike, too.
I will probably order a CF set for my '08 FJR1300 this fall.

BTW, Blue Flames are made in England, so you won't have to travel too far to find them!

Thanks guys,

I need to do some searching on the net for pictures of birds and different types of cans. I'm not keen on the oval shaped ones and I think it can make it look a bit "weedy". I had a Remus can on my CBR 600f, it was nice, tad noisy late at night, but I didn't like the look of it compared to the standard can. I've seen some cans that are triangular shaped and look quite nice.

I might be being fussy, but when you have to buy two, it has to be right.

well ,triangular and polugonal cans offered by yoshimura,and some akrapovic new models..although they are not xx dedicated you will have to do the mid-piping on a pipework shop..the R-77 Yoshimura's look fabulous ..wish they had a kit for the xx....

I posted up in another thread that I was looking for some slip ons and I went with the Two Bros. C2 aluminum ovals. Not available anymore to my knowledge. Thanx to Dragonslayer in St. Louis for giving these up to me, for a price of course. I know he will miss his 'bird. The look and sound are exactly what I was looking for. The tone is DEEEEEP at idle and NOT too obnoxious when given the command to raise some hell in the upper RPM range. Everybody that has heard them so far are quite impressed. The weight savings are very noticable as well. Those stock cans are HEAVY. The bike feels lighter and more comfortable. I also noticed that the bike runs alot smoother as well, snappier throttle and has a little more pull going through the gears. I included a pic of the left side. The bike does look better with two pipes in my humble opinion. Cheers.

Scorpion oval CF slip ons. Good low rumble and not very loud at all and I believe they are made in your back yard!
