Fuel coming out from carb vent tubes

I just recently got my bike and I drove it a little and it was running great then the next day I put the choke on started it up and it was driving a little funky. I get back and I can smell gas. I figured it as from the exhaust. the next day I start it up and gas starts coming out of the carb vent tubes and my exhaust has smoke coming from it. any help would be nice. I cant figure out if it got flooded and now there is oil in the lines or something?? Im not quite sure.

..possible choke valve left stuck open...prepare your self for a carb overhaul... a good opportunity to check their condition and proper functionality..

will I be able to do that myself or would it be best to just let a trained professional do that? Im going to school to be an auto mechanic so I am a little tech savvy.

if you re not familiar with carbs in general i suggest you seek technician support...although it may look easy on eye it has many traps which may lead in dramas ....before you seek assistance try the choke lever by hand slowly and feel any weird resistance as you close it ...sometimes it can restore the choke valves to its shut positions...don't forget that it is a common issue for many other carb problems..so its not sure that this is the problem...if you have access to carbs try tap them with the back of a screwdriver...

ok ill try that. I did notice though that whenever the rpms were up to about 2000 it didnt leak as much and then when i moved them a little higher around 2500 it almost stopped leaking. but after I let off the throttle the fuel started coming back out to whenever I had started it.

in this location you will find the service manual of your year model... Honda CBR 1100XX Service Manual 1997-1998
find the approriate section that refers to carbs and their piping...although i'm not sure that the manual gives detailed info for overhauling and manipulatng carbs..
the rev - depentant fuel overflowing seems to me also like a stuck float bowl fuel valve...

thanks that will help me out a whole bunch. I have a couple friends who are more motorcycle savvy than I am I might have one of them check it out.
I had been looking a bunch of other places and I think thats what it is too (stuck float bowl). Oh its only got about 15000 miles on it do you think it would be good to just go ahead and disassemble and clean the carbs anyway?

...these are common carb problems especially for bikes that sat too long still...and with the gas quality we have these days ....anything goes...have in mind to install a fuel filter ,will help with all that gas junk that the pumps fill our tanks...using also fuel additives/cleaners helps keeping your carb's jets free of any junk
You can deal with this issue as a "exersise" for your education.. |

thanks  Ive heard about this sea foam stuff any info on that everyone says it works pretty dang good but ive never used it. I was thinking about trying out on my car first then the bike.

..yes they do work...but not on misfunctioning parts of carbs..a complete overhaul and re-assembly of carbs using the approriate service kits available from the dealers will keep them in good shape and longevity...it is a compilcated and sensitive mechanism to adjustmens and alterations of any part of the air intake system...fuel cleaners mostly focus on the fuel line ,the fuel jets and the intake portion of the engine (intake valves ,and piston's crowns )

..this is the one that i can't answer since i own an injected blackbird...  ..but from previous bikes i owned,i can tell that it ishn't expensive...i'm sure the other fellas in the forum that own a carbed bird will give you a help on that..good luck |

hey i got it runnin good  . A guy I know up the street who has had hondas and been riding since forever saw me outside and stopped by. I told him what was up and he said the same thing to just tap the carb. anyway he got it runnin for me and I drove it for a little while and it runs great. Hey thanks for the advice. He also told me that the center carb on the left(the one that we tapped on)does that sometimes because the angle of the bike from the kick stand. The float gets kind of cock-eyed and then gets stuck. Hey Thanks again for everything!

My bike is a 2003 FI. The other day after a ride I noticed a drip that stained the drive. There wasn't much it was only the size of a 1/2 dollar but there was a drip.

huh Im not sure if i know what that would be from you should see if it happens again try and see if it is wet in any area under the tank like around the injectors or something. see if it happens again then look around.

9 times out of 10 its just stuck... Did it sit along time? some times just tap on the carb base it loosens it up. I did pop the rack off the engine flipped upside down took all the bowl off and found #2 stuck the seal part is ok. it just stuck from gasoline evaporating etc. They need alittle spray bump it and good to go. yeah thats what i did. I just taped it and wasnt sureif maybe it was a little dirty so i put some seafoam in it to give the engine a little cleaning. Its a 97 with 16000 miles on it but I purchased it at 15700. the guy that had it before me probably road it but not that much. anyway ill just keep taping it unti it dont tap no more. but i road it today and it was riding fine although in the morning when i started it it was a little funky from idle till about 2000 then it was fine, but im figuring it was the seafoam that i put in it.
