The 'birds are known for their noisy CCT (cam chain tensioner) after X amount of miles. There is an upgraded replacement you can get from John on this forum. I replaced mine and it's nice and quiet. It's not hard to do either, as long as you have a little mechanical ability. There is a downloadable service manual on this site for the carbie bikes. Do a search as well on the site for the part, procedure and other issues you may encounter. This is a great site, Cheers.

The chain should be fine, I would look at everything when a valve adjustment is needed. As far as I know, the only things to wear out are the tensioner and the chain guides, eventually. I haven't heard or seen anybody talk about chain replacement, unless there's a major mechanical breakdown. All in all, Honda has an excellent reliability record, especially with the 'bird. Many members here have logged many, many miles with no major issues. Cheers.

the chain tentioner isn't bad, it's "noisy"
the best replacement is the X-11
after that is the double green dot from johns bike bits..
some people have had good results from the APE manual tentioners, but their set-up/ installation instructions are minimal, and not very precise...
