HOW HOT DOES YOUR FI BIRD RUN?

Just wondering what kinds of temperatures people are seeing on there digital temp gauges when sitting in traffic or at lights. The highest mine has gone to was 108c. I know it nothing to worry about but you do start to get a little nervous until it goes back down again.

The coolest that I'v seen on mine was the week that I ran with both side fairings removed....the hotest it got in heavy stop n go traffic was 93c as opposed to the normal 101-103 with sides on

Don't know about C, but F is around 176 when cold outside and I am moving fast, 225-232 when sitting in traffic on a very hot day. This is with Engine Ice coolant. I have seen 242 prior to Engine Ice install.

With air flow around 81C to 83C. Without airflow I've seen no higher than 105 C. I recently changed my coolant which always helps to I suppose.

Re: HOW HOT DOES YOUR FI BIRD RUN?

At highway speed, mine runs within a couple of degrees of 180F, 82C, summer or winter. At slower speeds it warms up quickly in the summer. It is very typical for me to see temps in the 220's F (105C). When stuck in traffic on hot days, I've been over 230F, 110C. I was concerned when I first saw these temps, but it seems this is normal.

Normally, 81-83 C, in warm weather traffic, 108-110, and once, I shut her down, when the temp began to flash. 100+ F and waiting in line to enter West Yellowstone. I run Motul coolant, highly recommended. I still get nervous in hot weather traffic.

Re: HOW HOT DOES YOUR FI BIRD RUN?

I just had my coolant changed (Honda pre-mixed) and requested Engine Ice but the shop was out - got up to about 217 F on the way home when stuck in traffic and dropped to about 180 when cruising.

I don't think it will hurt adding some Water Wetter instead - can I just put some in the overflow bottle vice taking the fairing off and adding via the radiator cap?

Yeah it seems when sitting at a light anywhere between 218 and 230 F. I haven't seen the temp go above that. Thats hot enough though. It feels like I am starting to cook and I don't wear full leathers like some on do. Just jeans and Joe Rocket jacket. Just getting into the hot summer months though and I think its going to be a hot one here in Maryland.

Re: HOW HOT DOES YOUR FI BIRD RUN?

As a new owner, I was reassured to see this thread. Going through town at around 60km/h, temps were generally around 100C. Fan is on by the time it reaches 105.

Coolant flush will be coming up....

    Rob.
