I think someone posted the same question yesterday or the day before. Mixed reviews. I think more negative than positive.

This tyre thing is a real night mare . I need tyres on both the blackbird for when its finished and my fireblade for the winter so i'm looking at spending a chunk of money on 4 tyres and there is so much said its hard to make my mind up as to what will be the best choice for each bike.

GrahamcUK we had a thread up with a poll on tires. The Michelins pilot road 2's seemed to be the most popular. The thread has a lot of review comments from the posters. I use the Bridgestone BT014 currently on my bird. They came out with a newer version of that tire called the BT016. I'm happy with my BT014's but don't know yet how well they wear.

Went for pilot sports for the bird and the blade cost me £310 for the two set fitted, thought that was a good deal. I will post a report on the tyres when I see how they perform. Cheers G

Hi CanadianBird ,Yes I have every intention of injecting and blowing at some point in the future, I have already got the turbo unit ,throttle bodys and injection loom and some other bits. But I am going to run her on carbs for a while first. As stated before forced induction was not the main goal of the project.
Cheers Graham

Turbo unit is Garrett TB0329 hybrid, I will make my own exhaust manifold and Plenem.
Throttle body are modified blackbird. with all the normal injection sensers, Managment with either be Ignition managed by dyna 2000 and injection managed by powercommander 3 or if money allows ( the route I would like to go) stand alone 3D mapping ECU like the Ontronics or emerald. But as I said before thats all in the future t the moment I just want the bike back together
and running on carbs.

boring out the blackbird is perfectly ok as long as you have a good machine shop. the engine will only burn oil when the machine shop leaves too much clearance. even worse though is if they leave too little clearance....yikes. bottom line just make sure you put your engine in capable hands and you will be happy with the result. i personally have a turbo blackbird that is bored 2mm over, and i havent burned a drop of oil in nearly 800 street miles and about 25 passes down the 1/4 mile.

What turbo are you using and is it necessary to bore her out when you install a turbo?

| CandianBird if you checkout posting 10-17-2008, 3:04 PM Cheer Mate. Hi p.ludlow2 here are the pic’s I said I'd post. First 2 pics are of the start of the calliper brackets for the redials callipers. Next 2 are rear and side view of linkage modified of Fireblade rrw swing arm showing the spacers and longer linkage bolts. I used high tensile bolts and nylock nuts. Spacers are machined from alloy bar. And the last pic is the 2.5mm spacer that is put in the left side of the swing arm; this was machined from a piece of titanium. Using the standard blackbird swing arm bolt the swing arm is fitted with blackbird shock and bolted up as normal. The right side swing arm nut is tightened in the extra 2.5mm and torque up as normal. The rear calliper and calliper carrier are the rrw blade. I have a Dymag rear wheel but I think it would be straight forward enough to refit the Blackbird one with the right spacers. Hope is helps, if I can be of any other help feel free to contact my. Cheers Graham

Graham... It certainly looks like it would do the job. Did you do all the machining from a block of stock metal?

Hi Strek, Yep both brackets all machine out of one solid block of alloy. What I would give for a powerfeed on my milling machine, but thats not in the budget. So it's hours of winding back and forth , back and forth just glad I have a good sound system in the workshop. They are a bit chunky at the moment and need slimming down before they finally go on the bike but they getting there.
Cheers Graham

Hi guys . Just a quick one to say I couldn't wait until tomorrow to pop the tank out of the mould so here it is . It's just the top and sides but it weighs in at just under 2kgs, (1967gms) So I think the final tank should be less that 3kgs. A little bit lighter than standard me thinks .
Cheers Graham

Thanks Steve, your to kind. I was really on tender hooks cracking the mould but I am smiling ear to ear with the result. Just hope the rest of the project go's as well. As for the caliper brackets , even though I am a big fan of Mr Brunel and Mr Robinson they will be going on a diet before they are finally fitted.
Hope all is well with you Steve.
Cheers Graham

Will you have to treat the inside of the tank with anything? Or "line" it?
