I'd love to have one to retard the timing under boost, but I have seen to many failures.
Having said that , I know some guys who have had no problems, but I won't take the chance when using the bike to travel on.

Hi Graham. My 2 cents worth. I think the swing arm will depend on what you are doing with the overall paint scheme. I mean the final colour. A dark colour will look good with a satin black swing arm to match the frame and wheels, whereas a chrome swing arm will go good with a lighter colour panit job. Going by the work we have seen, I'm sure you will make the right decision. Lookin Good.

I kind of think that I'm going to go for satin black swingarm partly because the bike is going to be riden all year round and the maintainance of polished parts would be high.

That's a good choice in my humble opinion (nothing at all to do with the similarities with my own swingarm of course)
Did you get the frame painted yet? Are the two items going to be the same shade? If I ever get my engine out I'll have the frame done the same colour as the swingarm, at present the frame is standard "Black" which isn't really black at all.
Keep the photos coming Graham,
Cheers

No paint today I was hoping to get the wet flating done but I forgot that I had to go to my daughters school presention made it there with 5 minutes to spare. The frame is being painted in a titinium colour very simiular to the SP1 forks.

| Well????
What did you decide on the swingarm situation then Graham, polished or painted?
How soon before we see the assembled bike in all it's glory?

This was one of thoughs weeks, all the best intentions that just did not happen. . Tried all week to get in my mate spraybooth to base coat and laquer the frame but he's been booked solid all week. I'm pleased he's so busy but it holding up things.
Anyway attached pics show the HEL Performance Stainless braided oil line kit and the adapters to fit both types of oil cooler fitted to the Blackbird . also pictured is my new oilcooler which is a 40 % upgrade on the standard. HEL Brake Lines - Stainless Steel Motorcycle Performance Brake Line And Brake Hose Kits
Also while I had the time I thought I would see how my swingarm would polish up, I looks ok but I think I am going to go with satin or matt black powdercoat.

Swingarm came up nice but, frame and arm the same colour are still my favourite combo
Curious about the oil cooler, you say 40% upgrade, but, is that an actual increase in surface area of 40%? Will there still be room for it in the normal location...............aaah, just had a thought, yours is a carb'd bike so it's not above the radiator is it?
Either way, how much and where from and what're the measurements?
Cheers

| The 40% is increased oil capacity and heat transfer over the standard cooler. Yes mine is a carb model, but I have moved the cooler to the injection position is I am using the injection ram pipes to get more cold air to the carbs. Cooler is from HEL Performance Cheers Graham |

Might give that a look when I've done the brake thing.
After all, the Bird runs waaay too hot for my liking and anything to keep the temp down has to be a good thing surely? Even without a big bore kit and turbo fitted!!

Never mind riding around enjoying the sunshine - get that 1200 finished, you're project was keeping my spirits up while I can't afford such outrageous mods of my own!!
Then again, it's certainly bike weather this week, wall-to-wall sunshine all week here in Norfolk, bit warm for leathers though, 28 degrees C here at present (17.50 Sunday)
Cheers

Steve ,mate I did not get out on a bike at all lasts year and have only been out for a couple of quick jollies on mate bikes this year. so after spending just about every waking hour that I was not at work on project 1200 for the last two years I need a break to refocus for the final push to the finish. There is still a lot to do on the Blackbird and I need to get out on 2 wheels before I go mad !!!!!!! Anyway Just to let people know there won't be much happening to project 1200 until I get back from honeymoon. If I get anything done I will post it A.S.A.P . Cheers G

| Nice paint job Graham, I notice you painted over the vin plate, won't that cause problems with the "Boys In Blue" later on? |

If you look close at the vin plate you will see that the number are still clear. And of course I would never do anything to attract the boy's in blue like have a blank vin plate or speed, wheelie or do stoppie on the queens highway
