Just curious, I have a 98 carbie and I know that the factory filter is inside the tank on the fuel tap/petcock. My question is, have you had trouble with dirt in your carbs causing running problems? I have had trouble in the past with my bike acting like it's running out of fuel even though it has a full tank. I posted this issue last year and got some feedback about the fuel tap/petcock diaphragm being the culprit. I know that I have to replace the whole assembly to fix this.

Yep..After a three week period my Bird ran on three cylinders.

Emptied the floatchambers at the bottom and released the floatneedle by tapping with a screwdriver on the carbs that caused it all.

I thought it might be a good idea to place the filters so I am certain that all the fuel has been filtered before going in the carbs.

take a look at his link..

I was curious if the stock internal filter was enough. I might consider doing the same. Looks like a cheap piece of mind to me. I'm still going to look at replacing the fuel tap/petcock assembly because the diaphragm is not available by itself. thanx.
