Okay, I was smelling gas so I propped up my tank and had to replace the gas line. At the same time I thought I would change spark plugs (after 57,000 miles) and service my K& N filter. The plugs looked great. Anyway, put it all back together and now the bike still has a strong gas smell. I have examined it a couple of times, but see no leaks. Is it possible I oiled the K& N too much and the bike is running super rich because of oxygen starvation? Where are you supposed to route the gas tank over flow line? I have also noticed I am not getting very good mileage. I changed my rear spocket to a 41 tooth recently thinking that might improve my mileage, but that might have hurt it. Any suggestions?

Check yur exhaust tips, that will tell you if you are running too rich or not (could be very black or even a bit wet). When replaced fuel line and tank was everything plugged back in where it is supposed to be?

I only know from experience from my RZ350FN that if I dropped too many teeth on the rear sprocket, then the engine would have to work harder and be much lower in the rev range (then I would have to drop back a gear or two) this had the opposite effect on my mileage.

My tailpipe is pretty black. What are the main things that would make it run so rich? It has plenty of power, but just seems to really suck the gas. I need to check under the tank again and see if I left off a hose or something, but I doubt it.

Found my gasoline smell problem. I decided to take the tank off again and I noticed a very small dent under the tank and sure enough it is leaking. I cleaned it with a wire brush, sand paper, and then acetone. Applied a layer of JB weld to see if that solves it.
Anyone have success fixing tiny leaks in gasoline tanks?

Bite the bullet, DanS.
Take the tank and get it welded professionally ... it is the only way to be sure. I have yet to find a product that seals fuel tanks ... Boats, cars or bikes !!!
Good Luck !

Silicon Bronze filler wire works good on gas tank repair. Wets in quick at low temperature, and is very tough once mixed in the base metal. I've done it several times. Get someone that knows what they are doing with a Tig torch to fix it. Otherwise, you will be buying another tank.
