Clutch Fluid, what do I use?

My Clutch fluid level is slightly low. Its a new 2007 Bird. Do I use DOT 4 OR 5 fluid. The shop sold me Castrol Response Dot 4 Brake Fluid, and the manual says nothing. Cheers.

I use DOT 4 and I believe that is what Honda recommend.
DOT 5 is silicone based and shall not be used. As an alternate to DOT 4 you can use DOT 5.1.

All my bikes show DOT 4.
DOT 5 was going to be the best thing ever. But it seems that it does not play well with others and requires changing more often.

Re: Clutch Fluid, what do I use?

I've been using Valvoline Syn Power, full synthetic, which exceeds DOT 3 & 4 requirements, and is compatible w\conventional fluids.

Many thanks R1000, Redxxrdr and Flblackbird. I must be a bit stupid but also found that the "Dot 4" was specified on top of the Clutch reservoir.

Yes; on all Honda reservoirs. Even in Japanese!

Re: Clutch Fluid, what do I use?

Whatever you use for brakes you use for clutch. Mortorex 5.1 with braided hoses. Check the thread posted a little earlier re brakes. I commented there as did several other on hydrolic fluids. I also use Motul as well and it should be readily available in your neck of the planet.

Re: Clutch Fluid, what do I use?

...unless you have upgraded the system to stainless steel lines ...stick on dot 4...dot 5.1 much better boiling point but unless havin steel lines is worthless...it also absorbs moisture like sponge ...very hydroscopic...
