Could it be your clutch basket? Does the knock go away when you pull the clutch lever in?

Is your idle speed too low? Should be set at 1100 rpm.

Mine has been doing it sence it was new 99 with 58,000 mi. I've never been able to figure it out. An engine rebuilder friend of mine says it can't be serious or the motor would have let loose. He thinks it might be in the clutch or the counter balancers.
I've adjusted the balancers with no results. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the balancers cush rubber.
The knock is not steady evenly spaced but has a uneveness to it. If you find out what it is let me know.

Mine clutch is kicking like hell, but only when cold on very low idle. When it heats up, noise stops, even if idle is around 1000 rpm.

I've got the knock when she's warm. It's pretty consistent (about three knocks a second) she's got 29,000 mi. on her odo. I bought her used recently and put about 1,000 on myself but she's had it the whole time. Could it be the valves need adjusting? Hard to trace where it's coming from, may be top of the engine but not sure. It's not terribly loud, kind of like "lightly" knocking on a hard table. |

Yea sounds like you have same noise.I have a mate with a bird done 42000 klm's.And guess what its the same.Knocks only when hot.So i'm not so worried now.I'm thinking clutch pack noise, but only at a guess.Icheck oil and oil is clean & not burnt. What oil do you run.I have Motul 5100.My mate runs Honda oil.

It's easy check, do it when engine running. First release 8 mm screw on top of CCT and you'll find another screw under it. Then use small phillips screwdriver to screw thatone 90 degrees clockwise. While doing that noise should be gettihg worst , then just pull screwdriver out and noise shold stop . Sometimes CCT gets stuck in some position and not doing his job, that happened to my friend over here. It's worth trying before bird starts 'knocking on the heavens doors'. Hope this helped.

@peterw. not sure on the oil as I haven't changed it yet. I've got to get to it. Reading the oil threads I'll be lookin at some type of semi synth I think. Rotella gets good press, still doing research. The knock doesn't sound serious though, but if we can get it smoothed out why not?
@ choowie I'm not getting the bb's in a can at 4000 rpms but I think I'll go ahead and just change out the CCT if that's a possible prob. Not too wild about sticking a screwdriver in a running engine (bad experience with an electrical outlet still haunts me I guess ) Thanks for the tip. |

As U wish, I'm not saying that CCT is most probably reason for knocking, the way Udescribed sound, this is the easyest wayto check. I'l try to find some pictures of CCT and try to explain idea of puting screwdriver into running engine. U cant do any harm with it.
