I'm looking for some information regarding turbos and the XX. I know some of you have quite a bit of experience in this area... so I'm eager to get your input.

I've got a new IHI RHF4 turbo... it's a little guy... nothing TOO serious. I'm not trying to build a 100% drag racing bike or a 200+mph machine... I'm just doing this for fun and to get some more mechanical experience under my belt and so I don't get overly bored this winter.

What internal modifications would need to be made for a low boost application (< 8psi)? As I understand, none are necessary.
Is it better to go with an external electric oil pump, or just the stock internal pump?
Does anyone have pictures of their turbo manifolds from their XXs?
Where can I find carb jets suitable for a turbo application?
Is an aftermarket ignition system recommended? If so, which one?
Should I install an O2 sensor to monitor air/fuel to help identify lean situations?
What literature is recommended that I read on the subject?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Maybe too small, not sure and couldn't find a chart on it, just keep in mind that too small may not net 8 PSI of boost.

Depends on how conservative you go, but yeah, 8 PSI or lower should be fine with the only possible exception being clutch springs.

External pump is only needed if you have the center section of the turbo lower than your oil level, otherwise it will gravity drain just fine.

Go visit Welcome - Sponsored by Gary Evans - Message Board - ezboard.com (Gary Evans' site) and poke around. I'm sure you will find all kinds of photos and information on things you haven't thought of yet. Furthermore, that is a good place for a do-it-yourselfer to go meet people to ask even more questions of.

Turbo application doesn't change the type of jets, however, you will have to seal up the carb's, which is something I have never done. You will find people who have on the site I listed.

No, absolutely not, the CDI ignition that comes on the XX is quite stellar and worked up to 480ish HP. A PowerCommander II will be needed to pull some timing out, however.

With the cost of them now, it is cheap insurance. Number 1 enemy is detonation and lean conditions can easily cause them.

See previous link and he lists a few books as well that could be useful to someone about to embark on what you are.
