Hey everyone. Anyone ever be riding and accelerating from a light and go up a gear and a few seconds in to the gear, it will drop down in to the previous gear. Mine randomly does this, and not more in one gear or another. Im thinking of getting the factory pro star, arm, and spring kit to see if it helps. None of my bikes have ever done this. Im just hoping that its not broken dog teeth or something.

Well, Now I am going to travel for the next twoo weeks, but after I will take out the engine and open it. I am really curious what I will find. I plan to post pictures and report the repair.
By the way, did someone notice that tha guy in the BB manual, who is drilling a hole into the rear shock absorber on page 14-10 has two right arms? Or he has 4 tumbs on the left arm? Really funny!!

Great thread. It gives me a better understanding of what I might be up against. My 1st to 2nd gear shift drop out to neutral has been getting worse and worse. Now, so much in fact that I can't do it under much power at all unless I have constant pressure on the shift lever. So, it appears as though I'm going to have to tear into the case and figure out what exactly is the issue.

One question for you guys. Anyone know of somebody in the US or Canada who would be able to back cut gears for me if so required?

Can't help you with a company in Canada/US for obvious reasons but I would question undercutting worn gears. When gears wear to the point that they jump out of gear it is usually (always?) due to the upper @90 degree angle having been rounded off. In order that the gear meshes correctly this angle has to be restored so the gear would need cutting back which obviously looses strength ...... then you undercut taking more 'meat' away loosing further strength.
A simpler (and more normal) procedure is to simply replace the individual gear/worn part.

Or of course you could import gears with undercut dogs from a very good Co here in the UK Nova - Honda-CBR1100XX-Blackbird-3-Speed-Gearbox

I have the factory pro star, arm, and spring kit installed and love it.

Looked at these before. My Bird always clunks into first in spite of new cush rubbers and newish correctly set chain. Sometimes get a missed shift between 4/5/and 6th but that's probably my too soft upchange. Only thing that puts me off is the $48 postage to the UK. Seriously?

Thanks for the feedback guys!! Perhaps if I'm not stressed for time I'll upload pictures of the teardown and "found" issues for others to reference.

If your 'bird really clunks into first, try moving the gear lever down/up one spline...mine is significantly different. Also it makes a difference what footwear your wearing in relation to how gears either snick in or clunk throughout the box. Sounds like the OP's problem is a little more severe but always worth a try for how little time it takes.
