There is a vent hose that connects to a nipple on the bottom of the tank. This is not clamped on, it simply slips over the nipple and runs down through a couple of clips to somewhere around the swingarm pivot. If this hose was not reinstalled the tank vapour (and possibly some fuel as well) would be venting onto the top of the air box and down.
Where are we going...and what am I doing in this hand basket??

I've tracked down the opened ended hose, it is from the vent nipple on the tank. Instead of it venting under the tank I rerouted it to the area above the shifter so the fumes are outside the bike and HOPEFULLY less lingering.

There is also another hose which (an educated guess) is a overflow, also open ended near the shifter... Am I correct? (it's slightly larger then the vent hose.)

I'll take a ride later and see if any of this helps... I really hope so. I don't mind the smell... In small doses from time to time, not all the time
My name is Rob, I ride a 2002 Blackbird... silver.I bought her with 18, 300 miles On 6/25/13. Now she has 31,176 miles.
