As long as you are travelling to Lake Louise, then an absolute MUST is to try to go to Jasper (particularly if you can swing an extra day or two there) about three hours away. The ride/drive through the park system that borders Canadian Rocky's is magnificent and equal to/possibly more scenic than Denali in Alaska. There is even a famous Glacier along the way if you feel like walking around on packed ice.
The Jasper area is full of outdoor activities including hiking the nearby mountains (cable cars in some areas), climbing, white water rafting, bicycling, etc. Lake Louise is nice but rather slow paced and is essentually focused around the Fairmont hotel and the surrounding grounds. Scenic but not worth much more than a day visit in reality. Jasper is the fun place to be, bar none, and there are many reasonably priced lodging (deluxe accomodations available, too) opportunities in the area. It is a very small town at an important railhead that kept it on the map, very laid back, BTW. Downtown Banff is remeniscent of the Aspen and Vail resorts......beautiful grand hotels, lots of touristy stores and "cutesy" restaurants.

In Calgary itself.....the Bow River, The Calgary Tower, the market....what the hell was it called...ah well, it's right next to the river. The bar called "The back alley" if that's your scene. CJ's on Electric Avenue is good too....well it was when I was out there.

I could go on...I miss Cgy alot.

Oh yeah, and Race City (The local motorcycle road racing circuit).

What route are you taking and why not at least come as far as the coast. I would travel through the USA b/c gas is cheaper, motels are cheaper, speed limits are higher and you could dip down to Yellowstone. Use #2 it runs coast to coast. The good riding is in Wash, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Western Alberta and BC. This isn't to discount all the other great rides. Keep us posted, when are you leaving? I could plan a ride for you from Calgary to Vancouver, not problem I've ridden the Edmonton/Calgary for the last 7 years, from Van. I've ridden to Toronto. Cheers
