2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
There seems to be a growing number of Blackbird owners (including me) in the Southern Ontario area, and us new guys don't really know anyone in the Blackbird community except for here on the forum.........................
........ so it has been discussed in vague terms, hinted at, and suggested, but no one seems to be willing to take hold of this and run with the organizing. Being a newbe, and a little nieve about these things, I am willing to jump in and suggest the following and willing to help out with the organizing.
First meeting in early summer..........Weekend of June 1, 2 & 3 at Shannonville Race Track, during the vintage motorcycle event.
I will bring along a canopy and BBQ
Who will help out with the burgers, hot dogs, steaks, etc?
We need someone familiar with this area (around Belleville) to head up a ride for the participants ....who volunteers?
Second event in Late summer............Weekend of Aug 24, 25 & 26 at Mosport Race Track, during the Canadian Superbike double header event.
Again I will bring along the canopy and BBQ, but need someone more familiar with the area (just east of Toronto) to organize a ride or two during the
weekend. (who volunteers?)
Camping is available at both venues, as well, there are plenty of inexpensive accomodations near both tracks. Check out the track websites for additional information and directions.
At both events we can approach the organizers to see if they will allow us to do a parade lap or two of the track to show off the 'Birds.
It would be fun for those of us not too familiar with the areas, to have someone local handle the organizing of a ride for the rest of us.
Evenings usually have happenings (music) going on at both tracks, and we can always have some music and brown pops (bring your own) for those that want them.
I will see about the cost of some t-shirts, sweat shirts and perhaps some jackets, for anyone who will be there and willing to preorder/prepay them at cost. I have a couple of connections in the promo business that can do the shirts and jackets for a reasonable cost or maybe someone else will want to handle this.
Before we get too deep into this, who is in for one or both of these meets. RSVP here on this forum letting us know who will come, and to which event or to both events.
Who is willing to volunteer for organizing and heading up the rides? Anyone else have suggestions let us know?
If you my be interested in shirts, sweaters or jackets, I will get some photos and artwork and put them up on the forum if there is enough interest to justify it.
All Blackbird owners, or persons interested in BB's from Canada and NE USA or anywhere else would be welcome. We have several months to organize ourselves to come together for a fun weekend, so let me know your ideas.
Look forward to hearing from all you Blackbird owners and looking for volunteers and suggestions for anything reasonable that would make these events more interesting and fun for everyone. If there is enough interest, I would suggest we make it a family event and plan on at least one or two every year.
Thanks for your interest.
Brian

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
I have an old Ninja if you can stoop to riding such a machine, and you would be welcome to stay with us at our house. Just need to figure out how you can get here on the cheap............Its only about a 12 or 14 hour flight and then about an hour drive from the airport to our place. The ride to Shannonville is only about 4 or 5 hours and Mosport about 2 hours ................Love to have you visit, as I am sure lots of others would be as well. We may even be able to convicince Hank to come up from NJ as we are about a day ride for him..............now if each of you would bring up the turbo bikes for a few laps around the track.................or maybe a trip to the dragstrip..................possible...........???? ??

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
I'd be interested in a day trip to this. Although the June dates are more convenient, I would tend toward the August dates either Saturday or Sunday, for the simple fact that Bowmanville is closer to home for a day trip, plus the organized ride once there.
Beside, Bowmanville is close to Shewie's home turf
UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the bike.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
Well as Bob pointed out, Mosport is close enough to me that it would possibly construed as a criminal act to avoid that gathering. I'm not quite local enough to be intimately familiar with the local roads but I do know that most of them are about as curvy as Olive Oyl. That said, there are a few that break the mould and change direction occasionally and I may be able to come up with a route, depending on how long a ride we are aiming for.

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
Mosport is a good idea,Shannonville not worth it and I don't believe you're allowed a canopy or bbq unless you're a registered competitor. The roads are better near Mosport anyway and late August gives more time to plan. But here's a dilemma,if we go to Mosport its to watch racing it leaves little time to ride...just a thought.
I can't promise anything as my bike isn't road legal but I'm there as much as I can commit to at this point.

Always welcome here, but then both of us would have to get bikes....
And that flight is only about 6 hrs btw.
I would say printing up t-shirts is a big enough achievement,no need to go beyond that.

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
Sounds like there are a few for Mosport. Yes....... with all the racing there would be limited time for a ride, but I am sure we could find a coupe hours after the racing ends for the day around suppertime to get out for a spin around the country roads for an hour or two.
The vintage racing is a bit more relaxed and there should be plenty of time for a ride through eastern Ontario. Maybe we can even get some of the Quebec Bird riders to come up as well as some from New England area.
I go to most, if not all the vintage races, and will have no problem setting up a canopy or something. May even race the Ninja this year for fun. My buddy races a Yamaha RD400, that i will also be helping out on this year, so expect to be set up in the pit area anyway.
Mosport may be a little more difficult to set up something, but it is possible even if we need to do it in the camping area, and being closer to Toronto I expect more Blackbirds to show up at this event. There is also a vintage event the week before the superbike event which would be a little more relaxed, but thought most would want to see the superbike racing.
In any event, I will be at both. I will give it a couple weeks to see what the response is before deciding on tshirts, etc.
At the very lease we could meet at the events, take some photos, go for a group ride through the area and generally have a good weekend watching racing and talking bikes.
Hank and Graham - everyone would love if you guys could attend and I am sure there would be no problem finding you a place to stay and possible even a ride. Better yet.........a couple of turbo bikes would certainly get some attention here.............would be a great promotion for you to sell a few turbo kits maybe.................
Will keep you all posted as things develop.
Thanks

Re: 2012 Canadian Blackbird Meet
I think this is a great idea and would participate in either event. I would also be interested in a t-shirt or two. I live in Drumbo which is about two hours west of Mosport and three hours west of Shannonville. Although I know a lot of the main roads, I don't really know enough to lead a ride but count me in.
