    Re: SNOW!!

I'm a mobile engineer for a London Bus Company , on thursday out of 216 buses required for service from my garage, 63 were unfit due to the air systems being frozen , 10 were off the road due to ice in the ABS wiring ,so public transport does suffer in the cold and snow and is definately less reliable than it usually is . bad bus design and road management again.
We sure ain't as proffesional as some countries where snow is concerned...

Have you no access to methyl hydrate? A half litre or so dumped into the compressor intake while charging would have prevented your quandry.

Yes, I was a stupid truck driver for several years - I know all about frozen brake systems.

Umm , problem is our wonderous bosses would view buying enough of that for 1250 odd buses as not economically viable , everything is now cost effective , we suggested air system heaters as well ... declined , London only has snow occasionally therefore these measures a waste of money

    says it all really

    Re: SNOW!!

How much did it cost to pull 63 units off the road? I am willing to bet it was substantially more than a couple of drums of MH.

And all the overtime that went with it , i agree ,in fact all the engineers agree, but the bosses are accountants and see cost in relation to spending not mileage lost , wen the governing body for London ( TFL ) send out the fines then they will kick but thats not till April ...
