| Home made Radiator Guard
Some years ago, I think I spotted pictures of a home-made aluminium radiator guard. With the cost of the 'store-bought' items too high, I wonder if anyone has made a guard using stainless split plate for a little more protection than aluminium? Cheers dad | |

Ha Ha, No mate, a big Red Roo stand about 6 feet, so if you hit a Roo or a Wombat at 140 mph + your dead. Like wacking one of your moose. Forget the radiator. The problem is high speed closely fought dices where rocks are thrown up do real damage. Last week I had a play with an MV 312R with plenty of swapping positions. When we stopped for fuel. Old mate had a hole in a headlight and I had an 1 1/2" hole in the nose of the fairing. In the middle of buggery that sort impact on a radiator or oil cooler can leave you without a grin on your face. ![]() Cheers |

Hi Dad, I bit the bullet and forked out the hard earned for a Rad-Gaurd a couple of years back but to tell you the truth if you have access to a TIG and a little know how, there's really not that much to it and if you've ever been on a ride and one of the guys gets a stone through his radiator and you sit on the side of the road for hours waiting for a ute or trailer to pick your mates bike up and a whole days riding has been shot then you'll fork out the cash as well and then there's the cost of the replacement radiator. I nearly hit a LITTLE Roo early one morning in a lefthand blind cutting just out of Kingaroy in Queensland a few years back doing around the 160kmh (100mph) and he would of been well over 5 foot tall and built like a brick shithouse, luck would have it he moved out of my way and by the time I reacted I had passed him, scared the shit out of me and had to stop and gather my thoughts for a moment.

Hi WOL, Spot on mate, I should have had the radiator/oil cooler guard years ago. Just have to track down some S/S expanded plate. Cheers dad |
