Wiring Diagram

I am about to graft a Digital instrument cluster onto my 99 model XX to replace the analogue one..

I have the cluster and the subloom and I have tested the dash to see how it works and there are a couple of minor wrinkles I need to workout.

1, The tempreture display shows 132C and flashes.
2, The FI light stays on dimly..

The mainloom on the bike is a 99 FI model
The Subloom that I have is for a 03 FI model
The cluster that I have is from an 05 model

There wiring does not appear to be a direct match with the loom connector.

What I need if anyone has it is the wiring diagram from something like a Haynes manual as the wiring diagram for the 99 - 02 Honda manual do not match the color of the wires in the subloom..

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Why are you changing it out? Esthetics? Function? Acuracy? Accident? Sorry, I only know why and I never know how.

I wonder if the Aussie models are different somehow? Maybe you need to look to your local dealer as supposed to an outside source...

More Esthetics and funtion. I have a preference for a digital readout on speed and also have a preference for the positioning of the tachometer in the centre of the cluster.

The tachometer is physically smaller on the analogue cluster too.

This may be the case but I would rather take the easier path to begin with and see the Hayne wiring diagram provides the information that I require.

If the diagram is unavailable or doesnt have the correct colored wiring then I will take more difficult path of trying to get a dealler to compare models...

Re: Wiring Diagram

The Haynes manual has the color diagrams for the various year model and whether it is US or Euro. I can scan a copy if it comes yo that. I realized alll this when I wired my voltmeter and gear indicator in. Let me know how I can assist. I have a scanner right here in the room. // smurf

May i suggest that do one of the following.

A) resign yourself to buy a cluster from honda (in AU thats $1200)
B) resign yourself to having to buy damaged clusters and repairing
C) Collect some rocking horse droppings.
D) Collect some hens teeth
E) Go see Santa Clause.

option C,D,E are all easier than finding a complete undamaged second hand dash. I looked for nearly 2 years and settled on option B.

I will complete a full write up with pics when I have completed the project.

Re: Wiring Diagram

Somehow I lost touch with this thread. From the digital voltmeter install I found that the 97-98 are in one wiring group -carb models, the 99-00 in another - moved to FI and then the 2001 up go digital gauges but still retain the analogue tach. . Then it is also split between Euro and US (HISS etc). I think I've seen the Haynes manual for $20 on eBay. Things like the Baro sensor at the rear which is another MAP sensor found on the 2000 and then phased out, etc. Compare that to the shop manual or the pdf and you should be set. hth // smurf

Re: Wiring Diagram

I made this kind of modification and I encountered some difficulties :
1/ The connectors are not compatible --> so you have to plug the cables directly and you must exactly know what is the function of each wire (you'll find a sketch in the technical documentation)
2/ the fixing diameter of the water temp sensor can be different of the original one --> you must buy an adapter
3/ you can have signal interference in the read of the RPM --> you must fing the adequat filter to put on your wire
4/ an advice : for the speed signal you can take the signal of you calculator but it is not reliable. As for me I preferred put an inductive sensor on the front wheel to be able to set the tire circumference and to adjust this parameter with a GPS.

I put a pic of the wire during the mounting and a video of the first start

I approached this differantly and had different result to you.
1/ I purchased the subloom that connects the headlights and dash to the main loom and it has the same connectors on it..
2/ I havent ordered a replacement sender unit as yet but i have worked out that they are differant.
3/ not sure about this one as the rpm worked straight up without problems.
4/ speedometer seems to work without any problems,

The problems that I have encountered so far are..

1, the fuel temp reading is at its maximum and the dash shows 132 degrees. this is caused by the different sender.

2, when you turn the bike on the dash goes through its self test and this ends exactly how you would expect it to. The oil, FI lights on, the tacho at 0 and the speed at 0. when you start the bike though the FI light goes almost off but glows.. when you use the indicators or high beams the FI light glows brighter..

I just watched your video and that seems to be something like a fireblade dash installed inside a blackbird housing..

What is it....

I don't know what happens with your FI light (mine is a carb one) but the different troubles we meet are in relation with the brand of dashboards I suppose...
The brand of the one seen on the video is KOSO but I'm gonna change this year for a PZRacing dashboard (see the first pics)... more expensive but looking like more high tech (full digital)
It also exists an interesting dashboard with Starlane (the last pic)

OMG, that is way too cool! Orni, did you do all that yourself? Is that on your Bird? Is that a mechanical clutch rather than hydraulic? That couldn't be a cheap install. It's impressive from my perspective.
