Hope you don't view this as a hi-jack but I really miss working with CF. Most interesting project was a CF swing arm with Dymag ................... then look what customers do with your hard work!

this is more a docu of a process. view it and in the end you will have your cf.
btw: what do you think is this dark canvas on pic #2?
Is that a trick question, heisti?
More beer!!
I think Duck was just commenting that he also has some experience with carbon. You should compare notes with him.
More beer!!
for my german brain it didn´t come out if he is missing to work with carbon for himself or if he is missing it here in the pics.
i´m shure he is going to tell me.
heisti,
Nice work.
looks nice... but what is it?
Yes spot on, sorry my post wasn't clear.
I really enjoyed the work that I did with carbon a few years ago, as an engineer having a material that you can change the properties to suit the application is wonderful (even if the maths involved can be horrific).
The single sided swing arm that I designed (and posted the picture of) was a real interesting project, trying to get the lay-up correct to take out the loads was 'interesting' - I can see why single siders are rare and generally heavier than twin siders it is frightening what has to be considered. We even built our own autoclave when we got fed up with vacuum bagging prototypes! I've also touched on composite wheels and bicycle frames.
I've done some work for Airbus stressing composites - boring as hell!
Apologies this 'discussion' has done just what I didn't want to do and started to hi-jack this thread.

Life begins at 240kmph !
if you say so...i don´t know. i don´t even know those funny signs ;-) here in austria you will never get a licence plate with a carbon swing arm.
there is an air vessel (used) that is about to live his second life after rebuilding it as an autoclave. do i realy love that life as a one man show??? wheels? even if i would know how. same as with swing arms :-(
that´s a joke, right???
go on with it![]()
Sounds like your laws are tough out there, luckily in the UK we can still build what we like .......... but put on a slightly small numberplate or wear a dark visor and all hell breaks loose!
Go for it with the air vessel, we did that for our first one, cut off both ends, welded on flanges to bolt it together, fitted seals a small heater and rack inside, pressure gauge and away we went (having had it professionally tested and certified - UK law) the results especially with pre-preg were really impressive. I get a great satisfaction from building something myself.
Wasn't joking about the aircraft work, it is (IMO) really boring, I spent 2 years working on a small section of the inner rear spar (rear of the wing) for the A380 - that giant double decker aircraft. Thousands upon thousands of calculations for every square mm in attempts to save the odd gramme! Aircraft composites are slightly more interesting but only when you can get your head round the maths!
