Re: Nice Cycle Replacement Body Parts, Plastic, fairings

Got pinged on the postings re: bodywork.

Since I was last here I have found this:
http://www.stotzracing.com/images/logo_airtech.gif
Air-Tech Streamlining
Air-Tech produces the custom-fabricated fuel tank and aircraft-quality composite body panels for the Stotz Racing Honda CBR1100XX. With over 20 years of experience and thousands of satisfied customers, Air-Tech stands behind each and every one of its products to achieve complete customer satisfaction. For more information, visit
www.airtech-streamlining.com.

I have also found a guy up the road from me, with a plastic welder so he can stick pcs/partz back together. The body shop that I was going to work with, sends the stuff to him anyway.

Air Tech intriques me as carbon fibre is available to help trim down the weight of the "fat lady". Still they have the note about attaching tabs, but that the sales staff will help.

this is all just for straight up racing... if you want it for street use you'll be spending more time moding it then out riding... ill pay honda extra to have EVERYTHING come to me.... and a fiberglass gastank.. serious?

Listing source for folks to look at. Most likely for me not the gas tank. Read thru info on it, coat inside or...warning, and the biggest factor would be small. Nice for racing, but would cut into miles out and about on rides.

Carbon-fiber is a wonderful thought, but as you, I'm still with the OEM thought. No muss, no fuss, just buy it and put it on.

Plastic welder, well it is a lot cheaper, but I think broken/bent reused, somehow it comes up, No.

Hi,

Just a quick note to suggest you have done the right thing to repair the original. I have just finished the fitting on a Nice Cycle fairing kit to my bird. It is absolute rubbish! Claims from Japan like OEP but comes from China so that is the first BIG BS to start- goes DH from there. Average finish, tabs break off with little punishment in fitting, but easliy reglue (Probably better super glue than original!). However rightly after a lot of hassle it does fit & looks o/k. But I paid extra because I thought I was getting a premium product. It is not- probably from the same factory in China as the other cheapies, but costs more!

Also plastic is thinner than the original, so you have to pack with washers or shear original mounting bolts. Be warned.

Re: Nice Cycle Replacement Body Parts, Plastic, fairings

I bought my Chinese tupperware from an ebay source, Auctmarts. I went into it understanding that things wouldn't fit the same and it would take some work to get things to line up well. I bought all new hardware from Bikebolts.com powdercoated to match my graphics.

I have to say that I'm pretty happy with things. In my area I could never have repainted things as cheap as I payed for new stuff. And I will probably save almost $1000 over OEM, Thats 1/3rd of the total cost of the bike! I will get some pics up this weekend when I finish my custom undertail and get her out and wash it.

I am new here but thought I'd chime in. I would have to agree that if your fairings aren't tooo bad then doing a repair on them is the best way to go. Of course I have experience with fiberglass and plastic repairs from my past.

However I still need to find an upper cowl. I bought the XX off of a buddy after his brother dropped it. Fortunately for me I am a mechanic and was able to get the carbs taken care of, replace the R/R and do a brake job. My XX only needs cosmetics now.....if anyone knows where I can find an upper cowl that won't break the bank that would be great.

Yea, I just fell into the same trap with nice cycle fairings. Paint finish is cheap and a lot of work with dremel tool. Tail fairing did not fit at all. Everything else did fit - Not great, but ok.

Re: Nice Cycle Replacement Body Parts, Plastic, fairings

Been awhile since I was here on this topic. All said and done I went with OEM parts, no painting, no putting decals on, and everything just bolted on. Watch for your clips though, old damaged parts will have lil' fastners you'll need.

BUT, didn't get from dealership. Pricing was ongoing at various sources. I ended up at a little race shop for ATV's and they could get me OEM. They did this way cheaper than dealer. He was minutes from home and I was pleased with service. NOT cheap, but cheaper than dealer.
I.E. Nose pc, last price I got by dealer was $645-the little shop said $600, but when I picked it up 3 days later, he said...I'm only gonna charge you $580. Everything on that afternoon and out that evening. They have consistently beat the dealer(s) on prices. Always. Take a little time and hunt around (time is money).

Found a guy that would repair panels, paint etc., BUT the OEM cost a bit more than I was gonna be charged for repair-no brainer for me-new pcs for a tad more than repaired.
