Carbon Fiber group buy?

I have a local guy that does great custom carbon fiber work for a really good price. Would there be any interest in a group buy? If so, what piece? I was thinking mirrors/turn signal housings? Any thoughts? I would like to get some input on what parts we would want and about how many would be ordered so I can get some pricing and time frame info for you guys. He would be using my pieces to make the mold so you guys wouldn't have to ship your pieces to him. Any input would be appreciated!

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

I'd like a CF dash. Mirrors would also look cool.

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

Definitely the dash, and maybe the front fender and the rear hugger.

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

Only problem with the dash is that isn't the dash different from the 97-98 to the newer years? He would be using my oem parts to make the moldings.

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

I voted for the fairings. The biggest pieces that would make the most difference weight-wise and add to the looks,,,

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

As far as carbon fiber parts go if you want DASH or inner fairings, front fender, hugger, any of those parts you can contact spiral spinner http://www.spiralspinner.jp/ and he will take good care of you. I have delt with him for a few of my bikes and he is a good guy. If you want me to set up a group buy I can try just let me know. A-tech is the parts he deals with --A-TECH--エーテックオンラインショップ カスタムパーツ販売 also for engine armour Bike Johnny Kent UK - Motorcycle Racing Accessories, Parts and Body Armour this is for carbon clutch, generator, and pulsor covers. There are also a few people out there that already make carbon fiber body kits for the XX and last I priced it was 600 for the upper fairing 400 per side, and so on but it was a 2-3 month wait to get the parts. But if anyone knows where i can get a carbon fiber front belly piece that goes under the radiator and between the two lowers let me know and if I need to send them a plastic or fiberglass one to use as a mold I have a spare let me know!

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

I am interested but price normally sends me away. Show some prices to get better estimates on how we as a group will respond.

Well, I am working on getting prices right now. He doesn't know if he would be able to do the mirrors or not. I will update as I get the info.

Re: Carbon Fiber group buy?

You should put a COMPLETE BODY PACKAGE as a voting option in your pole.

I would personally be interested in buying an entire set of CF body panels for my bird (all plastics including a nose piece) .
The stipulations would be that the parts should be of OEM fit and quality, and as I would not be interested in painting them, they should be set up in the molds so that the CF weave would line up properly when the bike was fully assembled. I would not like the bike to look like a patchwork quilt with no two adjacent panels having the weave running in the same direction. The lower fairings would greatly benefit from a protective clear coat finish. I also believe that there should be no drilling/ sanding/shaping/tweaking of the panels required, which may lead an inexperienced member to damage a panel. I would be standing in line for such a kit if you could keep the price point around $2,000 or so.

Personally, I would buy such a kit for aesthetic reasons only. On a pound for pound basis, a single exhaust system with a TI header and a CF muffler would offer a much more substantial weight savings over a body panel kit.
Just switching to a pair of CF BlueFlame slipons netted me a 14 pound weight reduction. I doubt that a total CF conversion would save much more than 10 pounds in total. A CF XX would definitely give the bike a significant cool factor though!

Don't you hate it when that happens?

Just keep in mind; We all appreciate the effort and time you put in, even if it didn't work out.

If no one tried, we would have no group buys or fixes. Thanks for the effort.

If we could get enough people ready to go then it might be worth your while. Our bike club would be ready to play also if they look nice enough.
