My Bird Almost failed me!

Hey Guys,

I need some help..About 2 weeks ago my Batt. went dead so i had to push start my bike. The Battery is an everstart from walmart (crap) its only 2 months old, i charged it the bike was fine for 2 weeks. Was on the freeway and it started to sputter like it was out of gas? So my buddy came with his bird we put his battery in my bike it started right up...we put my battery in his already running bike, it started to sputter like mine...so my buddy went to my house and p/u my old Batt. which was fine, put in my bike and it ran fine?

Does it sound like a bad battery or electrical issues?

Thanks Mike-

Re: My Bird Almost failed me!

Could be either, but cheapest fix is to get Wallyworld to replace your battery with store receipt. Then see how you fare. From there I am sure others who know more will weigh in, but you would back into the charging/regulating systems.

Make sure that the batt is a 12 "series" & is fully charged. An undercharged, poorly maintained batt can lead to stator or R\R damage. Believe me, I know, I just went thru this too, the stator was working too hard to try & bring the batt rate back up, & "cooked" the stator.

Or the battery was never fully charged the first time and now won't hold a full charge.Car places(using the term lightly here)tend to overcharge bike batteries not knowing about proper amp charging rates.

In Aussieland. The vendors store the 'wet' batteries dry and then fill them with sulphuric acid upon sale.

And although they are considered 'dry charged', they still need to be fully charged prior to trying to start a bike with them once they are wet down.
They will start a bike if you just wet them, but wont last.

Re: My Bird Almost failed me!

Can't he just plug into a battery tender when the bike is resting and it will keep the charge up?

Re: My Bird Almost failed me!

Make sure that there is no sulphide residue ( or corossion, I don't know what would be correct english word for what I have on my mind) on battery contacts. It may create to much ressistance to electrical circuit.

Re: My Bird Almost failed me!

Look in the Electrical forum for heaps of shyte by me.

It seems 99's (F1) stators and R/R's tend to die at the worst possible moment.

Cheers
