rev counter and speedo dip when indicating or braking ?

I have a weird issue! on my 2000 Blackbird. when I indicate or brake, the rev counter and speedo stop working? Plus, I started her up this morning, no problem, then after I had ridden about 15 miles turned her off, she then wont start, like the battery is flat. I replaced the coils about six months ago, could it be the RR? The battery is also new-ish (six months)

My local shop said that my HID headlights are the source of ALL evil.

(Im off to Germany for a week in a months time, so at least I have time to fix the issue) Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

    Tanks

    Geoff

Your battery is dead. That's why its acting like the battery is dead.

Charge it, start the bike, and check the charging voltage. I suspect there is no charging voltage, only battery voltage, in which case you need a stator.

Had the same on mine when the stator died taking the reg/rec with it. No lights, clocks indicators etc, then the spark got weak and recovered home.

I replaced the Stator with a new one about six months ago ? Could it be the RR then ?

Could be, or as iXXion said, battery maybe dead. Try and charge it and get it tested.

SO I bought a new battery... but at tickover its only getting 12.4 volts, at 4000 rpm this goes to 12.8. is it time for a new RR?

Sounding like it to me, seeing as the stator is new-ish and the battery is good.

I would be replacing the stator and RR together. Your symptoms are indicative of stator failure. When a RR fails, the voltage from the stator is untamed and typically too high. Never heard of an RR over-governing the voltage, except the adjustable type. -BIG DAN

Get a multimeter and check the stator - you should be getting approx 50 V AC on each of the three pairs. if not, the stator is toast. Its a 5 minutes test to give you piece of mind.

Checked the Stator......17.5v on each "pair" at tickover, then rising to 55v at 4000 RPM. New RR arrives Tuesday. I even went looking at new bikes today !! PHEW Glad the Bird is gonna be ok !
