Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Does anyone have a (female) cigarette lighter adapter connected to their BB? If so, where did you place the adapter and how? Pictures would be great, thankxx.

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Another approach you might want to consider, which is considerably more durable/versatile, is to install a powerlet socket (Jastek) with it's weaterproof springloaded hinged cap.

Once this is installed you can run any sort of pigtail adapter with a cigarette socket that you may want.

You can also use a Jastek socket to plug in a battery tender.

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

I just competed the work for my new cig lighter adapter last night. I just went down the the local Radio Shack and picked one up. It came with a small snap in bracket that had a flat side for screwing into a car dash, I assume.

Anyway, I took some stick on velcro which I also got at RS and mounted it on the "Dash" under the wind screen. I ran the tails under the upper faring pieces (I kept the fuse connector open where I can change it) and away from the oil and water heat exchangers, and under the tank. Because it is only going to be used for a radar detector and cell phone charger (LOW amp draw) I just used the little blue splicer jobbers and spliced into the existing hot and ground on my vest heater pig tail.

I don't have any pics now, but I'll get some. It works great, and looks really clean. Plus it is easialy removable.

Powerlet :: Plugs

Once this is installed you can run any sort of pigtail adapter with a cigarette socket that you may want.
Powerlet :: Adapter Cables

You can also use a Jastek socket to plug in a battery tender.
have been meaning to do something like that, currently i just have 2 X cigerette lighter (female end) under the seat connected through a small fuse box

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

If you are using it to power other accessories rather than an actual cigarette lighter, there is a more elegant solution. Gerbings, the electric vest people, sells a thingy called a direct wire harness. Comes with connectors to go on the battery, a 20 amp fuse in a nice covered holder and is terminated with a coax power connector. They also sell a thing called a glove harness that has 3 mating connectors on it. A trip to Radio Shack will also find mating connectors in their power connector drawer. They have the same threads as a 1/4" phono jack so you can use the plastic portion of those to make a strain relief. A little solder, a little shrink wrap and you have a nice, unobtrusive power cable with a branched circuit for powering two devices at once.

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Thank you everyone. The powerlet is the answer for me. Thanks Tony, I believe I can install it at the bottom of the left panel.http://www.powerletproducts.com/prod...pso001.jpg</a>

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

This is a cheap alternative. Wal-mart sells a cigarette lighter to two pin (battery tender) adapter that is about 6" long. For those times I've needed an outlet I just plug it in to the battery tender cable and secure it with velcro.

Saw a thread once where the powerlet was installed in the tail area by the keylock and used for that purpose. It was a really slick install and looked completely stock. (He used the waterproof cover with it)

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Try Powerlet - Powersport Standard Connector for the mini lighter plug. BMW motorcycle dealers sell a nice little kit for this with a snap over cover, mounting bracket and a couple of wires pre-attached.

For the coax connectors as I described, Gerbing's Heated Clothing Welcomes You with Warmth and Comfort!
