| hard-wiring a radar detector
If you were going to t-tap into a wire to hard-wire a radar detector which is the easiest to tap into. (2002 bird, so digital display) And if anyone had a photo indicating the correct wire that would be cool. Or-- I haven't checked, is there an empty spot in the fuse box to drop one of those fuses with a lead wire coming out of it into?

Yes, there is. Which is *exactly* what I did for my V1. Open the fuse box, yoink out one of the 10-amp fuses. Insert the V1 positive wire (obviously, you will have stripped off a hefty 3/4" or 1" of insulation first) into the fuse slot, and reinsert the fuse. You will still be able to close/latch the fuse box cover (assuming you have stripped off sufficient insulation). If you find you have stripped off a bit too much, and there is exposed bare wire after you've latched the fuse box lid, either remove the wire and snip off the offending length, or wrap it with electrical tape. BTW.... glad to see you posting here..... |

NIK, You can also go to Radio Shack and buy a pack of automotive-blade type fuse taps (#270-1204), for a quick, clean hookup. Package of 4 taps for $1.49. I believe that they come in ATO size and mini fuse size as well.

When I run the hard-wire from my detector to the fuse location where is the best place to run it so I don't end up by a hot spot that will be melted or something? I haven't taken a close look, so it might be obvious and the dash wiring harness is the best route, but anyone have any advice.

Pick up some skinny plastic wiring conduit at Autozone or Advance Auto to protect it. That's what I use whenever I'm running wire on a bike.

I installed an additional Auxiliary Fuse Panel (made by Centech) and relay, which gives me eight additional outputs for my hard wiring needs.
