The temp is for "color" and should not be any "hotter" externally than any other HID. The watts are the same (typically) and only the color of the light is different - more blue / purple as you go higher in K's. 12K is purple and terrible light output - it's all show. I have 8000k in my car and put a 6000k in my bird and it's fine. |

IMO, even 6000 Kelvin is a bit too high for ideal lighting.... there is a definite twinge of blue in the 6000 Kelvin bulbs, even more so with 8000 Kelvin bulbs. For the human eye, the very best HID color temperature is 4300K. This is a white, white, WHITE light; it's the closest approximation to the sun that HID technology produces. The human eye's ability to discern contrast and view objects is best under a 4300 Kevlin color temperature. The above having been said.... 5000 Kelvin is a reasonable substitute, and even though it has hints of light blue, the 6000 Kelvin is not bad by any means. Still, I personally would not counsel for a HID bulb temperature any higher than 6000 Kelvin, and if you can get 5000K or 4300K, that's The Shit to have in your reflector housings, trust me. |

I just put an H7 8000k set on my bird $93 shipped, x2 if you want both low and hi-beam, here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AME WA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330086804247&rd=1&rd=1 I've had it for a while now and it's UNBELIEVABLE. It's the best possible upgrade ever and it's the best one I've made to date on my bike. it's so powerful and clean that I can see low beam on cars in front of me during daytime. | |

I have the 5000k on low beam and the 6000k on the high beam. Bout the only time I have a need for the highbeam is when some Gray Hair decides to go 10 under in the Fast lane. The bluish 6000k gets there attention quickly and they shield there eyes and move over a lane even in broad daylight. there seems to always be other traffic around at night so the HID lowbeam is all I use mostly. the Highbeam HID really would tick people off at night badly. Here in So. Florida ticked off people generally pull guns and fire a few rounds at those that tick them off !! |

| Re: 8000k h.i.d. headlights Just curious.......how many Kelvin is the stock(factory) bulbs? My low beams burned out last night and I want much better/brighter lighting for these curvy mountain roads at night, and I might as well replace them both as a set. What do I ask for at the shop to get the 5,000k/6,000k???

Depending on the brand and type of halogen bulb you are running on your bike, figure around a 3000-3500K color temperature from a stock replacement h7 bulb (not a blue, coated bulb).

| Re: 8000k h.i.d. headlights You guys must have some really super small hands. It was tough enuff to remove the dust cover with my BIG hands. Now before I run out of cuss words and cutting up the back of my hand on all the sharp whatevers that are down in this small cavity to get to the low beam buld..........How in the world do I remove this freaking wire retainer with my BIG hands????? I am doing this by feel and not by eye sight......Please help!!!!

I had my nose cowl and upper plastics off when I did my install (it gives you more room to mount the transformers, and extra wiring harness), but, I believe things would get much easier for you if you removed the upper black plastic fairing trim pieces, at the very least. Don't forget, there is a plastic adapter that plugs into the back of the stock h7 bulb that has a wider terminal spacing on the back of it to fit into the factory harness socket. You will need to save that piece if you should ever want to revert back to stock h7 configuration. Go to a hardware store and buy a couple of garden hose washers, as it will take one or two of them slipped on a hid capsule to take up the slack in the back of the headlight assembly and keep the bulb from bouncing around. I think Dale did an installation post on this topic a while back.

| Re: 8000k h.i.d. headlights OOOOpppppppsssssss, I think I'm in the wrong forum here. I don't have the H.I.D. set-up. Still have the stock set-up. But I did get the retainer off.........finally!!! Now if it will all go back in without any problems.

I removed my windscreen when I installed my HID lighting. It will give you more wiggle room IMO.
