    Blackbird running hot?

I just installed a manual fan switch on my 2000 Blackbird and its the best mod ever!!!!

the needle used to climb to 4/5ths of temp gauge while I was sat in traffic now i flick the switch just before I hit traffic/traffic lights and the temp gauge sits at half then when I hit "normal" speeds I flick it off again.

the mod is so simple and costs under 5, brilliant.

    how 2! (1999-2000)

    you will need:-
    10amp+ ON/OFF toggle switch
A piece of BLACK 10amp+ rated wire thats 1&1/2 feet long
A piece GREEN of 10amp+ rated wire thats 2&1/2 feet long
    1 male spade connector
    2 female spade connectors
    an earthing hoop connector
    Insulation tape
    a drill

Disconnect the wire from fan switch

Connect the BLACK 10amp+ wire from the fan switch wire to your toggle switch (male spade connector to fanswitch wire and female other end)

Connect the GREEN 10amp+ wire from your toggle switch to the earthing point by the fuel tank (under the front of the seat -Female spade connector to toggle switch and earth loop connector to earthing point)

Install switch into left hand dash trim and route the BLACK wire down the inside of the left hand fairing and the GREEN wire under the LHS tank trim and fuel tank

There are no pics as I'm too lazy but its dead easy, I installed the switch 1 inch left of the trim bolt which allows me to flick it On and Off with my middle finger as I ride and i also put a lil sticker by the fuel gauge saying "TURN FAN ON" so I remember

    HOPE THIS HELPS

(P.S. THE REASON FOR THE COLOUR OF THE WIRES IS BECAUSE GREEN AND BLACK ARE THE PROPER HONDA COLOUR WIRES,BLACK BEING + AND GREEN BEING EARTH)

    Re: Blackbird running hot?

I want to do this as well since it is super cheap really in addition to replacing the stock plastic Bird fan with a Muzzy 5 blade steel fan which is another cheap mod under $50 Canadian, just need to cross reference the 900RR fan as I believe they use the same fan or it is another Honda model which uses same as Bird. Muzzy no longer lists makes a Bird replacement rad fan listed on their site

In addition to the switch you have done , go with Engine Ice rad coolant and install the entire Samco Silicone Rad hose kit, you will see additional benefit from these mods as well

Anyone know exact specs of 97 XX Rad fan , mm/diamenter size?

    Re: Blackbird running hot?

TBH i will do these mods but as I have to ride all year (no car) I want it to run warmer for winter so I can flick the fan on and get warm air around my legs
