Indiglo tacho face..

I recently purchased one of these from Jaws in the incredible deal he was offfering.

I now have a question.

I am going to complete the GIPro into the tacho project when I intall this part and this means I am going to have to cut a hole in the indiglo faceplate...

Has anyone done this before will cutting the hole in it kill it...

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

There is a note in my package that warns against bending it. I have to think that cutting it is like counting to 5 with the Holy Handgrenade.

When you peal the backing paper off, you can see what appears to be circuits.. where i need to cut will break at least one of the circuits. I have given it a close look and the circuit seems to be circular with power able to get to sections even if there is a break.

Well I guess we will see what happens, unless someone can definitively tell me not to do it...

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

By the way, have you found a point to solder the inverter inside the cluster?

I would prefer to keep the instrument panel independent so the best way is to find a usable 12V source somewhere in the board..

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

I have seen a post of this being done and it does look "cool". I have an Indiglo tac face also from Jaws. My Acumen GI is seperate. Good Luck! on this mod, the finished product should be cool. Is the gi the same cool blue colour?

I havent pulled the dash out to intall this yet. i have a Scott Oiler Esystem coming this week and I was going to give the XX some tender loving care on the weekend..

I know that there must be a 12v feed coming in so I will look into this and let you know as part of the write up..

Yes CB it is Blue... And I also have the Blue LED's to install at the same time..

I do have a second circuit board for the dash though and I will admit that i have been practicing the removal and solder of the fiddly little led's

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

Ok so out came the scalpel and with a great deal of trepidation I started to cut into my indiglo tacho face...

Finally after a great deal of care I had a hole for the gear indicator to show through..

Out to the garage and added power to the face plate and

It still glows.. phew...

I will not however take responsibility for anyone else that decides to take a knife to one of these babies... Before starting I had pealed off the backing paper and could see the circuits that I was going to cut through... Tracing back around the power traces convinced me that the area I was going to remove was was not going to isolate another area and hence killing the display in that area... You do this at your own peril.. The only reason that I attempted it was because I got mine cheap in the Jaws special offer...

I will be posting pics later

Yes, let's see some pics! Perhaps a photlog of the GI install in the tach face, too.

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

Hi Uglystick,

Have you already changed the leds? I have a question, do you need to take the LCDs off or you can change the LEDs without removing the LCDs?

I already have the leds but I haven't opened the cluster yet so I would like to know how much work it will take...

Cheers

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

No I havent done the leds yet...

Cutting into a $35 indiglo face plate wasnt a hard sell for me..

Taking to the dash with a soldering iron.. Im waiting for a moment when everything is going just perfect....

These should give you an idea of what your up against

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

Great photos and news.. I seems ok to solder the leds without having to remove the LCDs...

Will you piggyback the illumiglo power into the cluster? Have you found out where?

Re: Indiglo tacho face..

By the way (to someone who wants to do this also), I have just tried to remove the cluster just by removing the screen but it is impossible (at least from what I saw).

The top screw was obvious but the two bottom ones seem that will only be removed if either I take the RAM air ducts or remove the complete front nose cone

Sorry i didnt see this to reply..

The gauge cluster can be removed after only removing the dash and the dash surrounds..

You need to use the 10mm ring spanner in the kit to get at the lower nuts.. its not easy but it can be done.
