| Another for the Sydney folk - where to stick the e-tag?
I'm new to Sydney so I don't know how the sensors pick them up. I took my first ride into work this morning and it didn't register the one I had in the pocket of my jacket (the girlfriend is going to be p*ssed when she finds out I took it out of her car ), so I've probably got a fine coming my way...I would have thought it's just a radio signal? Anyway, I've had a bit of a look around the dash and there's not much room to stick the bl**dy thing. Don't want to put it on the screen and it's pretty close to the levers at full lock if its on the upper cowl. Any suggestions? The bike dealer said you can actually ride around the sensors if you hug the rail either side, but while I'm running it in and trying not to lose my licence due to other obvious reasons, I'm keen to put one on and play it safe. Thanks | |

Hi JExpress, I live in the Mountains and there's no way I'd ride in that mess called peak hour on the way to and from work every day. Have you got a tank bag on the XX? Maybe you could put it in the clear map pocket on the top of the bag. Anyway good luck with it, WOL

Where to stick the e-tag ????? Up Main Roads' toockus !!!!! Got a fine 2 weeks after visiting your fair city and was ignorant of the tolls. Got off claiming I was a tourist from interstate ..... They couldn't be bothered fighting it, I suppose.

I always use them, and never have linked my car tag to my bike rego otherwise when I use the toll roads, the tag operators will deduct bike trips. I NEVER pay the toll notices when they send them, I have never been fined and they have don'e nothing more about it. If they want to try and chase me, then I'll pay, until then bike trips for me are free.

I put mine in the top left pocket of my jacket. I just make sure I orient it as per normal windscreen mounting on the car. Seems to work - the boom gate on the exit opens!

I've tried that one already Max...the traffic light stayed red - lucky there wasn't a boom gate! I've been strapping it to my upper arm in a ziplock bag outside my jacket lately...it's doing the job, although I have to flap the arm around like a chicken to make sure it works! Thinking about buying a cheap ipod arm strap to put it in. |

On my '98 I made a perspex bracket & stuck the tag to it with doublesided tape. I then took off the windscreen & stuck the tag to the top of the headlight, then put the screen back in over the top so it couldn't be seen. Oh yes, I had also opened the thing and connected an ultrabright red LED across the peizo buzzer so it would light up when it beeped & put it just over the dash so I could see when it went off. Strangely, every so often, the LED would give a short flash, but no beep, say when parked at home with no toll roads within 50km... On my '07, I just had the plate linked to the tag account for my other and don't have a tag on the bike. I just ride through the gateless lane on the M4/7 on the rare occasions I go that way. |

Judging by some bumper stickers I've seen lately this E-Tag problem is not confined to the BB. I also have the bike and car on the same account so I might be kidding myself - maybe th etag doesn't register half the time. When I go through with my tag in my pocket I sit up straight. Might also depend on the zipper (metal or not) and where it is in relation to where the tag sits in the pocket. I also keep any metal objects (phone, coins, keys) away from that part of the jacket. If the RTA could get rid of those wire motorcyclist shredders, provide a fair toll system for bike riders and give us an E-tag that works we could live in a happier world! (I still remember when the Harbour Bridge toll was 5c for bikes)

I can understand charging cars and trucks for major roadways...as an engineer, I know how much damage they do to the roads in large volumes and frequency (not to mention paying for the construction of them). But motorcycles are at least 1/4 the weight of the smallest cars, usually less, so damage is limited to the black lines left after a liberal dose of the right wrist. They are more fuel efficient than anything else on the road, can be ridden in much higher numbers and they can be parked anywhere with a minimum of space. The encouragement for people to switch from cars to a viable alternative when possible isn't exactly compelling... ![]() Aahhhh, please pardon the minor rant! That really should go in another thread. |

It's these private toll road folk who **** bike riders in the ass, and we can thank Bob Carr for letting them do it. Nothing made me happier than to see the operators of the Cross City Tunnel with their greedy $3.50 toll going bankrupt and getting about 1/10 of the traffic through the tunnel than they expected. That whole debacle between the RTA and bribes from the tunnel builders and operator was enough to leave a sour aste in any Sydney motorists mouth when it comes to building private toll roads. The Lane Cove Tunnel is headed in he same direction, and it pleases me greatly to watch them go bust, as the govt won't be able to find a volunteer to build the M4 East under the same model as in no cost to govt, and private operator to build and maintain for 20-30 years and just toll the users. The RTA might just have to pay for a road to be built, given they haven't paid for any ofthe motorways in Sydney or the Harbour Tunnel, fark them I say. They tax us more maybe, but it will be cheaper than a tolling system when they appy the cost to all road uses in the state.

| Re: Another for the Sydney folk - where to stick the e-tag? Ah yes, Eastlink. I'm not looking forward to what it's going to do to Hoddle St and the Eastern Freeway. One thing's for sure - there will be lots of trucks on the Eastern now The locations are as follows: WELLINGTON ROAD ROWVILLE OVERPASS BRIDGE BOTH DIRECTIONS 6 CAMERAS 3 IN EACH DIRECTION. These camera's are mounted high up in the honeycomb design of the underbelly and special attention has been given that they not be seen from either direction. GREENS ROAD DANDENONG OVERPASS BRIDGE BOTH DIRECTIONS 6 CAMERAS 3 IN EACH DIRECTION. Conditions of installation same as above. EASTLINK TUNNEL RINGWOOD 12 CAMERAS 6 EACH SIDE. These cameras are located at station box B22 and can move on special slide rails that allow them to be moved forward or backwards between station Box B22 and B35. these are expected to raise the most revenue. FRANKSTON FREEWAY TO GREENS ROAD OVERPASS DISTANCE 17 STRAIGHT KMS (IDEAL DRAG STRIP) This area is of major concern for the State Government at this stage no legislation has been passed for the installation of cameras in either direction until you hit the Green Rd Bridge. Signs have been erected along this 17km strip that indicate 'Speed cameras operate in this area' in both directions but nothing is operating. The Government does not want to project itself as an immediate cash cow and as a result will not introduce them until next year at this stage. They have placed into the road when the bitumen was poured, electronic trackers which are a new system of detection that works like the ones on the Geelong Freeway that measure you by Time Vs Speed. These are still being tested and measured for accuracy and efficiency. It is possible that random mobile units may be deployed or hand held speed guns used as it is feared that this strip has become nick named the Dandy Dragstrip by the workers. Have finally solved the problem...used your method Banshee when the notices started coming in for unpaid tolls. Linked my rego to the car's tag and the RTA have said this is the preferred method of doing it. Now I can try to dodge the tolls if possible, and know they're paid anyway if I can't. |

either upside down in a tank bag or in the missus's side pocket so when we go thru she holds it up. the side hugging the rails as you go thru only work on the harbor or where there are toll booths. easiest just get your rego plate registered. they take the pic and do a search for your account |

Hi Guys, I received the Australian Road Rider mag today and they had an article in their about this very problem. Go to this site TollRider - EWay Tag for Motorcycles They sell a neat looking holder type bag that mounts on the bars. Looks purpose made for this issue. Cheers.

I don't put mine on the bike in a fancy pouch, tank bag or anything else. Someone will nick it when I inevitably forget to take it off when I park. Got the link to my car tag account, and dodge the sensors when I can. Cheers, Paul. |
