| A question for the Sydney siders
Hey guys, Just a quick question, where do you service your Birds? Only asking because I just had my 6000kms service and thought Sydney City Motorcycles charged me 'a bit' too steep for practically an oil change - 416 bucks. $270 for labour, so it took them nearly 3 hours to change oil, heh right. Anyway I won't be back there, Honda or not. They're not the friendliest bunch either... The guys at Sydney Performance Bikes (??) down south were always cool, but a) never serviced my bike there (never had a new one before so always did it myself) and b) they're kinda far for me, and it's not always practical to wait for it, since it can take all day... So yeah if you found a good place (which will also give me a stamp ) I'd love to hear about it Thanks.

I got quoted $400 for the 6000 Klms service from the local Honda shop because bought the bike there .... They are willing to "take care of me" .. Sheeesh ! I have found out since that my local owner/operator bike shop will do it for half that price. He's been looking after my bikes for 10 years. Moral ... Like car servicing you DON'T have to take it to a Dealer to keep your warranty .... So shop around

Whereabouts in Sydney are you Romus? I get my bike serviced at Alexandria: Flywheels Motorcycle Engineering and I've been pretty happy with them so far. |

In Parramatta, I've had good experience over the years with Bikebiz. My 'local' is Western Motorcycles, Penrith. Also good to me. I had already done the oil & filter when they did the 12,000 & it cost me ~$250.

Yeh Dragon, I've learned my lesson. I didn't even think of asking for a quote since all my mates (although not Bird riders) pay half the price I ended up coughing up. I know I don't have to go back to the dealer I bought it from but they're pretty close and I honestly didn't expect to be ripped off... Lesson learned heh. Captain, I'm at North Ryde but Alexandria is 'close enough' hehe. Much better public transport connections than the other place I thought of. Thanks for that mate, I'll definitelly ring them for a quote in few weeks time when 12k is due .Banshee, Penrith would be kinda far but thanks for input . Bikebiz gave me my GS back once with a massive oil leak after changing my chain and sprockets once, so to avoid giving it back to them for another day (it was my commuter back then) I fixed that myself. Not too keen on giving them the Bird hehe. Thanks for your replies, everyone. Appreciate it |

Ouch! They must have had a bad day, Romus. Or maybe they just hated you/your GS? They have always been very professional in my experience. Maybe a bad day for the 1 person who worked on it? They had LOTS of experience with my '98 BB and no problems. On the other hand, not all of the same guys are working there now. And the risk of an oil leak vs $200...? Hmmm, potentially fatal, if it is bad enough. oh well, we can only state our own experiences & I know, if I get upset enough by someone I won't go back regardless of others opinions/experiences... Ron from Flywheels will charge about $500 for the 12k service. Ron isn't cheap by any means, but he is honest and does quality work.

Romus, I can recommend Pro-Tune Motorcycle Maintenance. He's a mobile guy and will come to your work or home and do your services. I know a few guys that use him and never heard any bad reports. His number is 0412343430. |

I had my hornets's 1000 and 6000 done at Sydney City Motorcyles and they were "reasonable", but they also charged $416 for the 12K on my NAKED bike...WTF, no fairing removals etc etc. I have just purchased a new bird from them and will probably only let them loose at the 1000k mark and then go to my regular guys. TJ's performance in parramatta is good with all bikes.......see Tex (he is the guy that rides all over OZ with his dog Bundy.) I use a mob called Motorcycle weaponary at Mona Vale who are also very good. These are my boys LOL. Jeff

I had my 6000km service done last week at Freedom Motorcycles in Brookvale, think it cost me around $380-390. Took about 3 hours and I was not expecting it to cost that much to be honest. Have put 400km's on it this week including a nice 150km ride up north of sydney today (old road etc) and no issues and the bike is running beautifully. I bought the bike from Sydney City but wont be taking it back there again under any circumstances (another story). I am pretty happy with the service I get from Freedom and will be going back - helps too as it's less than 5 minute walk from home . Having said that I dont know where else to go where I can A - trust the work done and B - charge fairly ----does that exist here in Sydney??I was going to take it to Flywheels but that's a pain in the arse to get to and from the Northern Beaches when I can drop the bike off at Freedom and walk home. 6 months of XX ownership under my belt now and the bike continues to impress, best I have ever owned and I got to say it's straight line grunt is superb - sorry had to drop that in I had a good ride today Rode alongside a new blue busa with a single pipe on it today, sounded horn, and looked pretty good.Cheers Oska |

Freedom..........noooooooooo!!! I bought a bike from there years ago and I told them that the regulator was wrong and getting too hot. Of course, what the hell would I know, I am the idiot customer. Sure enough, later the whole wiring system including the CDU unit blew. When I was trying to buy my hornet, I gave up on them trying to get a price/test rise anything!!! A month after I was riding my hornet, i got a call to see if I was still interested...WTF????/ NEVER will I set foot in there again!!! Motorcyle Weaponary are now "my guys".

Hi Guys These charges look excessive to me. I bought my XX from Frasers, Homebush last year in Aug. Had them do the 6K service, cost $289. Seemed reasonable. My son gets his CBR600RR done there also - work is comprehensive and prices reasonable. Cheers

I also live on the North side and have dealt with Freedom Motorcycles (they are close to home) and Motorcycle Weaponary and have had good dealings with both although I also think the 6000k service was a bit expensive. The last oil & filter change I did myself, fitting a K&N filter that has a 17mm nut fixed to the end it makes it so much easier to fit and when the time comes for the next change easier to remove than the original filter.

Used to live on the northern beaches and used Brian Conners bike shop. went to Freedom and found them heaps more expensive than Brian. He is also a straight shooter and will even just give advise before costing dollars

I was quoted over $400.00 for a 6k service. the cost of the oil from the workshop was double what they charged in the spare parts department. The filter was $7 more than spare parts. I bought the stuff from spare parts , went home, downloaded the service manual and completed the service myself following each step as the book said and completed the lot in 90 minutse for a total cost of $70.00 The shops up here charge $88 to $100 per hour for labour and they arent worh a crumpet. Just had a 24k service at another Honda dealer complete with new chain and sprockets and shelled out $1500.00 |

Anyone had experience with Action Motorcycles in Sydney city? I've had the 1k and 6k services done there, just because they're close to work. But they charged $380-ish for the 6k service and I suspect they took my Bird for a decent ride down the highway too (had approx. 30kms extra on the clock and felt a bit hot/rough when I picked it up). Everything's running great and can't prove they rode it somewhere, but considering going elsewhere because they just don't feel trustworthy. Not to mention it took them 30 mins to find the key after the last service... |

Thanks jclaude, I missed the end of your previous post...that just confirms my suspicions. Will go somewhere else for the 12k service coming up. Anyone know a good servicing option close to the city? DragonXX - I read in the warranty documentation that the bike needs to be serviced by a licenced Honda service centre for the warranty to be valid...how do you know this isn't the case? |

Thanks again jclaude, I know the BMW shop at Hornsby, but like most of the other preferred shops here, they're too far out. I might have to give Flywheels a go, but $500 is steep for a 12k service! |

dunno if anyone is interested, but i use MMT at 4A east st Granville (02)9637 0277 i am quite happy with these blokes, each time i go they down tools and we end up having a half hour chat, they have even instructed me to do every second service myself to cut back on costs, not many mechanics would tell you not to give them your work
