Help! Key locked under seat no spare

Hi there can anyone help? Got my bike serviced and told mechanic to leave the key under the seat. Can't find my spare key - anybody know how to open the seat without a key?

Since it's cable release all you need to do is get to the cable.Never had to do this and bike is all apart right now so can't picture it, but I would take the tail section off and see if you can access it.'course you'll have to borrow a 5mm allen key...

Re: Help! Key locked under seat no spare

Attached you will find every picture I have loaded to the site that has anything close to a shot of the under seat area. This may or may not help you find your way to seat removal. I also had a look at the bike and popped the seat off to check access to the cable drive latch seat hold down. Yes the latch can be flicked...at least from the top side, but it it a rather tight and smooth fit on the underside of the latch that may not lend itself to remote flicking all that well. Even getting access to the latch from outside the bike will be somewhat problematic I think. After all...if it was easy there'd be little to no security available right. There is some daylight if you go in from the left side "lift handle" hole in the tail cowl but it would take a practice hand to snake a purpose bent coat hanger wire in there to find the latch.

As Al states,..if you could get the tail cowl off you'd have better luck. I'm not sure the cowl can be removed without the seat removed first. I do know that the front of the tail cowl, when the front hold down bolts are removed, will flex quite a bit which may allow it to drop away from the under side of the seat enough to allow it to be slid to the rear of the bike away from the tail light. But it's all guess work at this point. There is only the two front bolts to remove and then the collection of bolts either side of the grab handle and the cowl can be move rearward. That fit at the grab hand is rather snug as I recall....will there be enough slop to allow it to move to the rear with the seat still in place? The cowl has a raised ridge around it's edge...this ridge may also present a problem if trying to remove the cowl.

I'll shoot more picture and get a closer look in tomorrow and see what else I can figure out.

I also had a short feel around on the underside of the rear fender. Not sure if a well placed hole would allow any better access the latch or not. It is once again a rather snug fit of rear fender to the underside of the real tail cowl. Could a locksmith pick the lock for you?

The photo above showing the tail section with the chain wax. You can see the lock release/pull thru the big round hole and the one to the right of it. If you could use a hole saw to make a hole in this area in the fender then use needle nose pliers to pull the release arm. I put a light metal pull chain on mine and use a fishing connector thing for weight on the end and ran it to the outside of the inner fender on the left side. I can pull it to unlock the seat. I use it about 50% of the time to get under the seat it works that good.

Keep the piece from the hole saw and epoxy back in.

The tail cowl can be removed with the seat on. Pull it and you can access the cable from there.

Re: Help! Key locked under seat no spare

Hey thanks guys, really appreciate all your efforts. Just had a poke around (the bike is parked outside the closed workshop) and the rear of the bike is hard to get to, the bike is reversed up against a fence with hardly any room behind.. My 2 options are look harder for the spare key, or wait till Monday when the mechanic gets back in and get him to do it.

A Mrs or a key? The local locksmith could be a cheap bet. For the key that is.

I hate to mention, but if your Bird is '07 as per your profile and delivered in Australia, it is HISS equipped, finding the spare key is non-trivial.
