Welcome to the site, Dave. Your noise is probably the Cam Chain Tensioner lifter. Plenty of info on this site about it's replacement.

Thanks for that fellas, I did the search before and found, thats why I joined. I have changed the lifter, but its still making noise, Looks like I`ll be changing the guide and probably the chain too. Its done 54000 so we'll see how it goes once the new guide is in

I haven't heard of many cct "chains" needing changing but I suppose anything is possible. What's a "guide"? |

I`m thinking that because the lifter was replaced and the noise is still there, it could be the cam chain guide (which is the metal and plastic part that the lifter pushes against to create the tension) or maybe worse case that the cam chain itself has been stretched and is in need of replacement. As cam chains DO stretch. hope this answers your question canadian

In my case, '98 Candy Apple Red, it was the sliders/guides that finally got rid of the noise. I tried the CCT and it didn't fix it. Same type of noise too. Let us know how you go. edit: I think that was when I was around the 100,000km mark. |

Hey, it may take longer, just like emails... I send emails to one of our clients up in Darwin, (or waiting for one from them), takes about 4 hours?!?!?

Well I promised an answer, so here it is. I changed the fork seals, oil etc etc etc. Also did brake pads and new front discs. Changed front and rear wheel bearings and seals. The bike rides so so so much better now. Oh and I went with 10w oil, so much better than the 20w.. now just need a tune and tyres....
