    Snowy Ride 2010

It's a ways off but just wondering if anyone on the forums is planning on doing the ride this year?

I went on it for the first time last year & had an absolute blast. Would have to be some of the best alpine riding in the country, I reckon. And as a bonus, it's all for a good cause.

Over 2000 bikes and everyone just out for a good time. Even the Boys in Blue keep a low profile, providing you stay inside the double yellows & don't go too silly with the right paw.

I don't mind contributing to an excellent cause and aside from the fact that I'm too far to get there and my Bird can't swim, what's the thrill of riding surrounded by thousands of unknown riders? Have a great time.

Everyone you meet, CB, adds to life's rich tapestry. Besides, sometimes it's fun to find new people to play with on the twisties!

I had a a ball chasing some maniac on a Honda 500 naked bike. Couldn't get past him but he couldn't drop me either. No idea who he was but when we pulled up in Thredbo, both drenched in sweat, we couldn't help but shoot each other a friendly grin & a nod.

Most people do the Snowy with a group & usually you will ride together but there's always...options.

    Re: Snowy Ride 2010

I was going to do it last year, But I had a 3 day ride on the week after,
Over the same roads, but not with as many people, only 27 of us.
I think I did a big ride the week before it as well. on vitually the same roads.

I have a ride on the 6th march, Netrider run to Jindabyne, same roads.
3 days, Two nights in Jindabyne,

Annual Tintaldra run, on the 26th March, basically the same roads,
But the eastern end of the Snowys. usually 6 or 7 Birds, Mostly from Sydney. Karl. Kimmie. Jclaude this year, A few others I cant remember off hand, But I am sure they will pipe up and tell you on here. You can get your self onto this one as well, good bunch of people, The more Birds the better. We even have the slow black ones with us, Hahahahaha Couldnt resist that one, Be good to check out Jclaudes new colour scheme,
    $75-00 for two nights

Check out these rides on netrider.net.au. under other states rides.

I would have thought you would be on the Jindabyne run, Emsqd.
Its open to all. $100-00 accomodation for two nights,

    Cheers,
    Brian.

    Re: Snowy Ride 2010

ok its called the snowy ride but when looking at the link -WHERE IS THE SNOW. if you want we can export some to you.
in the west of scotland we have a charity ride in aid of the local childrens hospital and hospice.
the ride did not happen last year due to road works at the meeting point.
the year before there were 9000 yes the number is correct 9 THOUSAND bikes on the ride. this year it is back on and there will be at least 3000 bikes .if you want to have a look at what it looks like have a look on you tube for the glasgow easter egg run - there is also a facebook page as well.

Alot of folk think bikers are still hells angles but it just goes to show folk that be it north or south of the equator bikers do a lot for charity
its not a minimoto blackbird - thats its real size

    Re: Snowy Ride 2010

Heh heh. Well, it does happen in our summer.

Even so, you still see a bit of the white stuff on the peaks but the joy of it is you get the snow roads without the snow! Don't know what they make them out of, but that stuff is smooth & sticky.

Yeah, most bikers are just regular folks who are happy to help out when they can. Even the 1%ers I've met are all right, as long as you aren't wearing rival colours.

@Deadman: Thanks for the tip. Will look into the Jindy ride.

When I used to ride with OMG''s all the bikies drank in the same pub, and we all went on our monthly rides together, all wearing our own respective patches, Safety in numbers, kept the law off our backs. Hahahahaha

When it snows on those roads, all roads are closed, but when there is no snow, Whoopie time, They are magnificent bike roads, super mountain twisties, I ride them as much as possible, The tar melts when you get stinking hot days tho, the tar up there is different to other roads under the snow line,

The entry fee buys you a check point card & a sticker that gets you into & out of the national park for three days (Fri, Sat & Sun). There's no set ride - they do provide a map with some suggestions but it's up to you & your group to decide where & when you want to ride. To be honest, pretty much every road up there has something going for it, so you can't go wrong.

There are a bunch of checkpoints scattered around the Snowies at various towns - all marked on the map. You can choose to hit as many or as few of them as you like & get your card stamped. If you hit a minimum number (think it was 5 out of 8 last year), you drop your card into a barrel in Thredbo to be in with a chance to win some prizes at the draw on the Sat. arvo.

Honda & Ducati are both on board as major sponsors. Last years main prize was an ST1300 but there's heaps of other stuff that the various sponsors contribute to the cause.

Both camps had a bunch of demo bikes available for test rides out of Thredbo last year & apparently will again this year; just in case you'd like to briefly swap the 'Bird for a blast on a 996.

They have a concert on the Saturday night - last year was the Hoodo Gurus.

Accommodation is up to you, but since it's out of snow season it's usually pretty reasonable & even if you can't get anything in Thredbo, there's options nearby. We camp in a ski lodge in Perisher which is about 45 mins away - nice ride in though.

    Re: Snowy Ride 2010

Yes the Snowy Ride is a tremendous event and one I am personally proud of. We (metzi moto skinz) have been the second biggest sponsor behind HONDA to this event for the past 3 years.

Below is an announcement we made on our facebook page for the 2009 event.

I am again extremely proud to announce that METZI MOTO SKINZ was the second biggest sponsor of this year’s Steve Walters Foundation SNOWY RIDE for the CHILDRENS CANCER INSTITUTE AUSTRALIA.
This event is dear to my heart simply because of the joy children bring.

From experience, when things are bent out of shape in my life, it's the children around me that get me back on track and make everything worthwhile.

I would also like to thank all the participants in this and past events for your efforts and participation.

We are committed to this cause and will be there again next year.

I hope to see you there. Stay safe and well.

If you are on facebook, I invite you to join us and stay in touch with other riders and what we are getting up to. I promise you that we are interesting.

    Re: Snowy Ride 2010

I love the snowies region, but no way I'm doing this with so many blokes going flat out round the narrow mountain roads. I do this ride with mates, and it is so much better with a good 1/2 doz than some 2000.
